My 17 CM dipstick wipes the oil partially off frontside when pulling and you have to look at the back side to see the level. Anybody else have a similar issue or know how to remedy this?

Rotate dipstick 180° when you put it back in. Then it’ll wipe the rear and you can read the front.

Keep in mind that you’ll no longer be checking your OIL. You’ll now have 710.

Pull the dipstick and wipe it off. Reinstall dipstick and then check it.

Then starts a new thread “which is the best 710 fluid?” Haha

I noticed a large difference in height when looking at the oil level on the front and back of the dipstick (2008 5.7). I found several people online saying to use the lowest reading. I drained some oil out and then added oil 1/4 quart at a time. Each time I added the 1/4 quart, the low side consistently got higher. The high indicating side of the dipstick jumped all over in height. I came to the conclusion that the low side is the right one to use. Wiping and carefully inserting and pulling out the dipstick did not help with the height difference.

Well, there has to be a reason when I put 8 quarts in a vehicle that requires 7.9 quarts per the owner's Manual it shows way over full even after it has been run and allowed to sit. Of all the cars and trucks that I have owned this is the only one I remember reading goofy after being checked twice. Just so everyone knows I have wiped off a lot of dipsticks in my time here

Its definitely a bad design, my 19 did the same thing. I found if you scuff up the dipstick horizontally with some fine sandpaper from the bottom to about an inch past the full mark, it seems to show the oil level much better. :notsure:

Thanks. I'll give that a try I'm about a thousand miles away from an oil change and it really couldn't hurt anything

This helped. I smoothed the point and the side edges with a piece of 320 and the difference is noticeable. I may narrow the sides some more and smooth everything and try it
