Getting ready to do the timing belt on my ‘06 tundra. What’s the best coolant to use? Order from rock auto, or can I get off Amazon, or maybe walleyworld….

Toyota pink was OEM. Think it’s changed to red now as pink May not be available

 

You could go to your local dealer and buy OEM concentrate or 50/50 premix.

You could go to local parts store and buy Zerex Asian (concentrate or premix). Really recommend stick with OEM though if that is what you currently have in it.

I don't think RA ships coolant? Bonus with local auto parts store is you may be able to recycle your old at the very location you buy from. Might as well buy good quality - only a few $ more and it should last until your next T-belt change, which is often the "life" of the truck for most owners until they sell.

Not only do they ship it, it's cheaper. I bought 2 gal of Pentosin and paid $16.xx vs $21-23 at local parts store.

 

If not OEM, Zerex Asian Red is fine. If you order from WallyWorld, prices tend to be cheaper and - at least in my area - they'll deliver it to your door. But if you have an Advance Auto Parts near you, you can usually get pretty damn close to Wally prices if you hunt down a 15% coupon and order online w/coupon for store pickup.

 

Nearly all the major parts stores give a military discount too.

Rock Auto also sells Aisin coolant for $13.73.
I just had 3 gallons delivered.

 

Right stuff, but you can do better on the price. Also worth noting, Aisin is one of Toyota's OEM part manufacturers, what @FirstGenVol just linked.

Got anything that's actually helpful to contribute? That's not a bad price compared to Zerex at O'Reillys.

Toyota concentrate red 00272-1LLAC-01 is ~$21-30 a gallon from the dealer and you'd need to buy two gallons of concentrate.

 

My post was...I'm letting the man know he got screwed paying 20.59 for a gallon and a half of water....whats he dumping in there Evian or Fiji? I am being helpful, just in my own cynical/sarcastic way....Regardless of price, concentrate as far as I'm concerned is the way, at least it is for me, and thats all that matters.

 

While I agree that concentrated coolants are generally more economical -- and I too prefer them -- many coolants are only available as a 50/50 mix.

If my memory is correct, Toyota Long Life is available only in concentrate. But Toyota Extra Long Life is only available pre-diluted (50/50).

 

Yeah, but it's very special water...don't use hose water for this.

 

Nothing wrong with universal coolant, like Prestone or SuperTech. Just flush out as much as the old coolant as you can with distilled water. All my vehicles have it except the newer ones that have not reached 100K.

 

Can I use this stuff just to top off? Mines a little low.

 

As long as you're currently using red/pink yes.

If your crazy and are running whatever color you please, don't surprised if you cause major damage to the cooling system

True but this is America. Your not paying for the water, you're paying for the convenience.

If you are topping off, just use distilled water.
