Color matched TRD Pro grill insert

Who has painted their TRD Pro grill insert? I'd like to see. Any color, any style. Thinking of color matching mine. Similar to this

This may be my fall DIY, I may try to paint my old chrome door handles while I'm at it. If all goes well then my mirror caps.

There are some food tutorials out there for painting plastic and color matched paint isn't hard to find.

How many cans of spray paint do you think I'll need? I may also do my door handles ... mirror caps? Not sure yet.

Scuff with a 3M pad
Clean / degrease
Adhesion promoter
Prime
Sand
Paint it blue ribbon metallic !!
Clear
Wet sand as needed

Does anyone have an estimate of how many rattle cans I'd need to do this? I need enough for the grill for sure , maybe door handles too.

Anyone have a link to a place that sells good color match paint and clear?
I'm gonna do my PRO grill myself, figured I shouldn't cheap out on the paint.
Oh and I don't have a sprayer, I would use rattle cans if they are decent, I suppose o could get a sprayer for my compressor if that's needed.

Thanks @showtime240 !! That's very cool. I was considering doing mine very similar to that, but I wanted to do those side pieces too. Are you willing to share how you went about doing it?

 

MIne is just wrapped. I did not want anything permanent as I switch up the front every now and then

Going to order some paint. Not sure how much I need. I wanna do the grill insert and maybe try the door handles. I am assuming I need to clean very well and rub down with alcohol or something. Maybe scuff with scotchbrite? Then..
1. Adhesion promoter
2. Primer...a couple coats
3. Wet / high grit sand paper
4. Color coat, 3-5 light coats
5. Clear coat. Same 3-5 coats
Then wet sand any orange peel or imperfections and then wax after it's had time to cure.
Any tips on how much of each product I will need? I'm going to use aerosol cans. Also what grit sand paper should I buy?

Clean before you scuff/sand. You want to remove contaminants before you grind them into the surface, then, ideally clean again after scuffing.

If you have a 60gallon compressor, I have cheap but good gun options but don't attempt it on a portable, spraying clear needs lots of air....

I've never rattle canned anything important so I can't comment on them

 

I only have small portable compressor

 

Hey Tom. Should I clean with some dawn dish soap and water ? Maybe simple green ?
