Hello! Excited to join here and have learned a ton from others.

I recently got my first tundra 2015 4x4 SR5 with TRD. It has 172K miles and fit my budget. I could not be happier coming from a sedan.

The seller was retired and previously drove it almost all highway. Maintenance was really good fluids all recently done and such. Everything fixed and I can barely find a scratch on it.

So far I’m very happy with it. I’m curious if these typically go under KBB? Thankfully I was able to get it under KBB but it took a few months and then I pounced.

The only thing I noticed and I crawled under it many times is there is some light rust spots that are starting. The main frame looks good and nothing is falling apart. He did wash it after big snows and was in WY.

I’m in CO and want to make sure I keep the frame as good as I can. I have attached photos and I’m curious if this is typical or normal of a 2015 and what you would suggest from now on. I am going to spray underneath it with big snows but didn’t know if I should treat anything. Also adding photos of the truck. Again I’m thankful and excited to be here! Thanks everyone!

Welcome aboard!! That's a pretty one. The pics you sent all look pretty normal, if not pretty good. The surface and welds rust you see can and should be treated. Wire wheel can clean them up pretty good and then treat with your favorite rust preventative. Skip coatings and go with something penetrative that keeps the rust from getting worse by just trapping the moisture in.

Any brand of wire wheel, or just green scotchbrite pad will work. Then rust treatment of your choice depending on how much time money and effort you wanna put into it. Simple and cheap? PB blaster. Will need more frequent retreating than other solutions. More time consuming, messy and more expensive? POR 15 or Woolwax treatment.

    1. Nice truck. Looks good for a 2015 in 2024.

    2. You seem to be missing the front rubber skirting inside the wheel wells unless you removed it for pictures.

    3. Good advice so far. Wheel the rust off, clean the surfaces well, and just shoot it with semi gloss rustoleum black. Wait for it to dry, and blast a gallon of lanolin based rust protectant all over everything that is not rubber, not exhaust, and not brakes. Blow a lot into the boxed parts of the frame as well.

Thank you so so much!! I had no idea about the rubber things. Do you know where I can get these and I’m assuming they are supposed to be on front and back? Lastly do you wheel it off with a drill or brush? Thanks again.
