You could pull the axle yourself and take it to the shop for the press work. I've done that before.

 

I'm sitting here, about to pull the trigger on a new fuel pump to replace it just because it'd be easy with everything out the way. Are you saying it'd be worth replacing that as well? I've never had nearly the brake issues @FirstGenVol has but he got me thinking about the fuel pump and now you got me thinking about this.

Does Toyota accept kidneys for parts yet?

 

My fuel pump is OG from 1999 with 270k+ miles on it. No issues. The fuel filter though.....

 

Got some wire ferrules on. No noticeable performance increase in the sub. But knowing @shifty` can sleep at night now makes me feel like I did my tithing for the year

I just had to replace the fuel sender unit on my 85 Toyota pickup. Leaks and corrosion. It holds the fuel pump inside the tank, but it seems the fuel pumps last forever.

 

I fucking knew someone was gonna say something about them being from

 

He doesn't have an external fuel filter like we do. But his fuel pump is accessible with the bed off unlike our trucks.

 

Been hearing a popping sound on turns lately… you all think the grease is simply due to the strap not being tight or something went wrong inside?

Guess I’m hoping grease got on the rack bushing which is causing some slip/popping sound.

 

do the push/pull wheel test with the front end lifted.

imo there is supposed to be grease on those bushings, so if anything it made them quieter.

you can keep the tire on. Grab the top and bottom. Push and pull back and fourth, See if it jiggles. (Ball joints)
Grab the sides, same thing, See if it'll jiggle. Then I think it's top right corner? Just push and again, look for movement. There's a diagram that says exactly what is testing for what. But I just go by ear I can't remember exactly what is what

 

I'd do the fuel pump. My Sequoia went out at 310k and my tundra at 245k

Dude my truck makes more noises than ever. I have no idea what it is. Every front suspension part has been replaced recently except for the upper ball joints/arms and coilovers. Those were replaced in 2019. Sometimes driving a 22 year old truck gets old. Feels like I'm constantly chasing down new issues. I keep telling myself it's better than a truck payment.

The inner tie rods are packed with grease that can liquify and get through cracks in your steering rack boots. That's what mine did. Unless you know it's power steering fluid you likely just need to replace the boots. I replaced all my tie rods and the noises remain so it has to be something else.

I'm going to grease my upper ball joints tomorrow and see if the noises get better. For me, all this started after Sedona last April. It never made these sounds before then.

For red hands, you want the steering wheel locked, but you’ll still get some play in the rubber joint in the steering shaft coupler. Also one tire in the air and one on the ground, checking the one off the ground

 

Speaking of Sedona. You have your front sway bar connected right? We talked a bit about this, my noises got better after tightening the steering rack but once I took my front sway bar off, all the noises went away.
That’s how I’m noticing this faint popping. Honestly it’s the kind of sound a Toyota issue makes yet will go another new truck mileage before breaking.

Front sway bars after 700lb coilover change was life changing. Took the pain of hearing sounds after all the work put in away. It was magical

Next project. Gonna be a big one. Custom roof rack, solar, lights, electric plugs in back of cab for Frig, ham radio, weboost… basically all the things I’ve purchased over past 2 years but too afraid of electrical work.

 

I keep forgetting about that sway bar. Good call. You've convinced me to pull it off tomorrow. It's about time I joined the club. I'll report back if all these popping sounds go away.

My preference would be to add one in the rear after ditching the front. That video shared here after testing it convinced me this is the way.
