That's what I used to do with valve cover gaskets. It was a long time ago, but it was so much better than the gaskets you could buy at that time

I had to replace my transmission pan. It's a tedious job but not that difficult. I also did the filter while I was in there. I used the special Toyota FIPG and it hasn't leaked after almost 4 years.

Laying on your back isn't fun but it's so far off the ground right there that you have a decent amount of space to work.

Update after speaking with transmission shop

let me preface this by saying this is the most highly rated transmission shop I could find. He's been around a while, family run shop, knows Tundras and just happens to be within a couple miles of me and my only issue was I hadn't been able to talk to him. But in his defense, he had some important personal business to deal with over the last week and a half.

The price quote of $2800-3200 is for a full transmission rebuild, including torque converter and improvements in the valve body etc (hardened steel moving parts replacing what was aluminum on aluminum) new solenoids, etc bands, clutches and any gears that need to be replaced, and includes a full two-year warranty

I now have 100% confidence in this after speaking with him directly instead of family members at the front desk. Really good guy and great family on top of that

I would say I'm now ready to join the million mile club down the road with my one owner, 18-year-old first GEN with 307,000 miles. But the truth is at my age I'll probably only need it to make another 18 years and a total of 600,000 miles

That sounds like the best deal overall. And a local guy to deal with any issues that arise.

Agree 100%. I checked around and those good deals like you sent me where you could send it off and have it fully rebuilt with such improvements were around $4500-5200 when all is said and done, including shipping back-and-forth.

Just don't believe you can beat this at all. I've researched this thoroughly, and I am totally at ease now

he does five a week starting on Monday and has them out at the end of the week. They call him the builder. He has other folks that remove it and install it. He just focuses on the rebuild

i'll also be able to have it at home this weekend, and hopefully replace the bellows and the other outer TRE that I didn't replace when I did the LBJ's
