    Here's my dilemma....

Purchased the truck July of 22'

@ 9K miles started experiencing rotor warp symptoms - dealership was not very helpful at first

@14K miles during my oil change etc - dealer offered to cut front rotors (didnt want to do that but need my truck for work)

@22K miles - Rotors again shake violently over 65 mph

I understand that rotors and pads are a wear item...however seems odd since I commute 98% highway. I do not drive the truck hard at all, and avoid thermal shock (hot brakes cold water puddles etc)

I am at a loss, new truck should not need damn rotors @ 9K. Did I just get a bad set or are others experiencing this?

Would you push for more from your dealer/Toyota?

If I am out of luck and need to replace out of pocket would you go OEM or aftermarket?

Love this truck and this brake issue is my only sour grape with it...

I don't have warped rotors as of now but my rear brakes do squeal a lot when they are cold and the weird brake stutter when coming to a full stop, my service manager told me they will replace the set when Toyota comes out with a fix and I think the same applies to you. You shouldn't have to worry about rotors at 9k and you don't seem to abuse your truck so it's fair to say your rotors are likely to be defective hopefully they make it right.

I've heard that overtorqued lug nuts can damage the surface of the rotors. Maybe that's leading to them getting off balance. Are you running stock wheels and tires still?

Yes truck is fully stock and I did hear that as well so when rotors were cut, Wheels were put back on and TQ to spec.

Hmm. I wonder how the hubs are then. Maybe that surface was compromised at some point. New hubs, rotors and calipers from the dealer perhaps are in order to get it all new and isolate the problem.

Wonder if you have a stuck caliper?

Another option is new rotors/pads. I'm dealing with something similar on my wife's Subaru. OEM brakes lasted 77k miles. I put stoptech rotors and pads on from rockauto and have not been impressed. Personally, I don't think I received stoptech anything. The rotors were .010 out on the back side and had them machined. They are a little better now, but still have a little pulsation in the brake pedal. From now on I will not be purchasing any performance brakes from rockauto (or any part's distributor). They will come directly from the manufacturer.

It seems hit or miss with Toyota brakes. The braking system itself is damn good. My 2012 tundra went 65k on original pads/rotors and I tow on the heavy end. Now on all my Tacoma's and 4Runners the rotors and pads lasted 15-30k miles. My Lexus IS350 (same calipers as tundra) are excellent. You stab the brakes on that car...hold on.

I also own a 13 GS 350 F sport. Nothing but issues on the OEM pads and rotors ( front oem rotors on that car use to run me 330 a piece!) After about 900 bucks in OEM shit the brakes last 10K miles.
Switched to aftermarket and been on that set for 20K miles with plenty of life and no signs of rotor warpage or any brake issues for that matter.

Brakes on the truck feel solid, id really wouldn't expect a stuck caliper but I will check and confirm.

I have this identical issue. I run about 600 miles per week commuting on mostly highway. Brakes heat up after one or two firm pedal events (not slamming on, just higher speed passing and then braking to get back to 9mph over) and the rotors shake and shudder badly until they cool back down.

Very frustrating and have been unable to find any aftermarket rotors yet. Pleas share if you find anything. I’ve emailed PowerStop, PowerBrake, Dynamic Friction, and DBA (Disk Brake Australia). Love the truck. Very disappointed with the brakes.

On my 2nd gen Tacoma I sold it at 106k miles with the original pads and rotors and I lived in Colorado and frequented mountains. Granted I used engine braking a fair amount but it's still up and down mountains a bunch. No issues on my Tundra so far, 10k miles.

I have the same problem on my 22 SR5. Brake pedal started with a slight pulsation around 16k, and just took it in to my dealer for the 20k service today. Service advisor said that they would resurface the rotors under warantee since it was less than the 3yr/36k on the truck. He said that as a condition of the warantee, they will not let them replace the rotors until they have tried to resurface first, but that resurfacing will likely only be a band-aid fix and the problem will come back in a few thousand miles. When that happens, he said if I take it back it will be a continuation of the same issue, and they will replace all 4 rotors and pads under the basic warantee.

I found on my last 2012 tundra, same warped rotors low milage and replaced them myself. I found the the colling channels clogged with rust peel so no air could flow through them.
My past f150 lariat had ceramic from the factory- paint(white)sprayed on them and no rust developed and rotors were good past 30k.

I have a 2019 and been going through the same thing. My truck is lifted with 22's and 35's but every variation of rotors and pads that I've tried end with the same result. I now have EBC rotors and pads from a dude I saw on YT that claims to be the fix-all...nope...dont get me wrong...it isn't as bad but it's there and these give me a lot more dust. Didnt want to pull the trigger on a big brake kit but thinking it's my last option.

My coworker told me a story about a guy with one of those street legal race cars Mercedes makes…the owner needed a break job, turned out to cost like 20 grand.
So the guy gets on the phone and calls Germany to ask if there is anything they can do to help. They said, sir, we can’t technically tell you to do this, but drive about 180mph and slam on the breaks…that should do it

maybe trying to baby the breaks in a truck designed to tow 10k lbs. is not good for them :notsure:

Confessional time: are you a tail gater? At high speeds in all traffic conditions? To include driving in a high traffic city? If you live near me then you are as 70% of people ride the bumper and hit those brakes hard constantly. I can't even make a right had turn into my driveway without the clown behind me locking it down despite me signalling well in advance.

I am have not replaced pads in 30 years on any vehicle to include several over 100k miles. My wife tailgates, so her vehicles usually gets at least one set of pads before we trade them in.

I had a mid 90s Ford which were infamous for consuming rotors. Everyone that bought one that I knew had issues. If you buy a vehicle and you are one of a few with issues consider how you use the vehicle as a possible problem.

31K miles, half with Four Wheel Camper loaded in the back and on oversized tires. Zero brake issues and I'm sure I've tortured them a couple times in sudden highway braking situations. Seems something out of wack is causing this if it isn't a driving behavior.

Agreed. Unfortunately only front for now. Would have to have the rear painted to settle my OCD.

Do you use the dynamic cruise OP? that can be a brake killer...especially in any traffic
