    You are right!
However, Toyota and Lexus have always had so much cross-platform pollination. I think they took it to an extreme this time.

What bothers me so much about the new models (modern trucks) is they have become less and less rugged. These new vehicles are covered in cameras, sensors, plastic, and other expensive BS that is too fragile for my preference. I f'n wish Toyota would give me stripped-down options similar to the Toyota's you find in Australia, South America, and Africa. Maybe just a backup camera, cloth seats, vinyl flooring, manual transmission, manual transfer case, hydraulic power steering, basic ass cruise control, and etc.....Maybe then I would consider buying a brand new Toyota. I guess take my ass back to the mid-2000's or 1990s ahahaha
Putting out old man vibes today...

The problem is, our infrastructure is too good (for now). Much of America is crumbling, but we have a massive network of wide, smooth interstate highways, and heaven forbid if a truck rides like an actual damn truck on these roads.

They can sell us comfortable, tech-laden trucks in the higher trim levels and make a KILLING. Why would they offer us a 79 series or a Hilux?

The Hilux (lest we forget, an actual 1 ton midsize truck) used to be offered here, but it got neutered and became the Tacoma when we whined about ride comfort. A truck-like ride actually offends us. We need ride comfort. A screen that is only 8" offends us. We need tech. We need to look upon an updated interior. Who cares if it's cheap, who cares if more functionality is moved to the touchscreen; we were literally offended that Toyota offered the old one for so long.

Toyota listened to all this, and delivered. They're just listening to our demands. We Americans are a fat, sedentary people addicted to instant dopamine-hit gratification who value ride comfort and "stance" over everything else with our trucks.

Now that I've probably offended half the forum, I will just say I wish we could get the cloth seats, no sunroof, triple locked, left hand drive 300 series that Toyota sells in Qatar for the equivalent of $55k. I bet if they offered it here, the waitlist would be 2-3 years long, and dealers would mark them up like mad.
