Sorry radon, it came with the truck. Truck was certified used but with only 2k miles on it when I got it, I was thinking the top shelf was stock? I'll go out after rain stops and see if it has any markings on it.

Thanks Frog - Don't bother heading out. Turns out your right it is a Toyota accessory that includes the rails. I bought my truck used too and I guess the previous ditched the shelf somewhere but left the rails installed.

Well I have lost control of my right hand back in Dec 19th and been trying to figure out WTF a is wrong but still no answers. I have been on hold for a while (Dec 19 grrrrr) but have been working with it and can do some things. So I am going to go until I cannot any more…

I started my build process in CAD (cardboard aided drafting) and got the base of the entire things figured out, more or less. Once I determined what the size would be I got my wood and started the basics

So I don't really want to bump an old thread to ask people's thoughts, but I'm doing my rear differential (and possibly front/xfer case) this weekend as well as installing the TRD swaybar. I'm just shy of 30k miles.

My ask is - should I do my front/xfer case? I've probably put ~100 miles total on 4WD (mostly just bi-weekly shifts into 4WD to keep everything lubricated), so I'm thinking that it might be better to wait until 60k miles. Just curious if there's any reason I should do it sooner? I have a feeling I'd just be prematurely throwing out 'good' oil.

I’d do the front diff and not touch the tcase yet. I’ve done the front diff twice - first time around 30k it was dirty and a little stinky. Did again just after 60k and it looked new. Get that break in junk out of there imo.

I did the t-case around 75k and it was still serviceable.

I know a guy:anonymous: who has removed both rear axles, replaced both rear wheel bearings, has 225k on odometer.

The oil dripping off the axles when pulled, was clear as what comes new out of the bottle. This was at the 125k mark.

That oil ain't getting changed, just checked for level.

I use the 4wd system pretty infrequently, let's call it less than 100 miles a year. Changing the transfer case fluid and front diff fluid with that few miles will look like you are throwing out good oil. It will likely not be dirty, or worn out like the rear diff fluid looks. The recommended interval should still be followed to be safe, but I myself only do the T-case and front diff every 100k. Even then it still looks clean.

I had the dealer change front, rear, and xfer at 20k miles, even against their objection that it's unnecessary. I had less than 200 miles in 4x for maintenance lube, and maybe another 100 actually off pavement. The service advisor said all of them looked pretty bad for only having 20k miles. It's not that expensive or troublesome.

Would love to see the front diff and Tcase fluid that looked “pretty bad” in that scenario. If that’s true, I would want my diff and transfer case seals replaced under warranty.

'pretty bad for 20k miles' and 'pretty bad' might be two different things. I had it changed at 50k as well, and the shop didn't say anything was out of the ordinary. I know you get what you get with a Toyota shop, but Toyota of Plano is a good one, and they'd have told me if I needed to get additional work done. Best part is, the 4WD components have been used for their intended purposes much more in the past 35k miles than they were in the first 20k.

Thanks all for the feedback! I'll definitely do the back, probably do the front (especially because I have the lexus plugs to install and don't want to store them for another ~3 years), and maybe do the xfer case depending on how the front's oil looks.

Going to be a fun day tomorrow; hoping the front sway bar makes a somewhat noticeable difference (aside from looking cool lol).

Found a good deal for a Black TRD Pro grille and Hood bulge. I'm still waiting for my bumper shellz to come in to have it all color matched66781.jpg and I'm impatient. So for now, just a new grille.
