    I'm sick right now as well, felt kind of on and off for like a week and then had to leave work early Tuesday because it became more off than on. Still feel like absolute garbage so I'm probably going to miss two or three more days of work (hopefully no more than that)

    Come on now I'm not a salaried office worker! When they call in they just get a mark against their attendance but when I call in I have to cancel my vacations AND a mark against my attendance. And if it's near the end of the year and I used up all my vacation time on, you know, stupid life things like being sick and making memories on vacation, then I don't get paid AND it's an extra bad mark against my attendance

    About 25 years ago I worked for a company that was quietly presumed to be partially owned by the Russian Mafia. We were advised to only take time off if really necessary, and nobody really complained about it which I thought was weird. One time they gave me the day off and a block of cheese for my Birthday.

    That’s pretty messed up. All the union peeps, including me, have separate sick and vacation. Sick leave resets every year, with some going into a reserve but generally it is gone. Vaca accrues until you hit a limit and then no more.

    My wife gets something ridiculous like 9 total weeks per year of PTO (nurse).

    My last few jobs have managed to be rather generous on the leave benefits, which has been huge for starting family. Previous job was 4 weeks of leave and unlimited sick time (rules were amazing for this, btw). Current has been 4 weeks of leave (plus 20-50 hours of additional award) and 4 hours of sick per bi-weekly pay. Next year I get 5 weeks of leave. Add in every other Friday off and it becomes a benefit that actually keeps me around and happy.
