I have a 2000 Tundra that qualified for the frame recall. The frame was replaced in July 2012 due to a 10mm hole in the cross member under the bed. I was told by local dealership the staff had training to complete the frame replacement. Well let me tell you.. not all Toyota technician are qualified to complete the task. Upon picking the truck up the steering wheel was scraping when I turned to leave. I looked down and saw the screws that were to be installed to hold the column cover on were missing (looked in drink holder in console and there they were with 5 additional screws). Pissed I parked truck and exited it, only to discover the threshold plate popped off (the additional 5 screws in the drink holder). Then I got to looking under the hood and found missing holder for hoses and other stuff. I went in and told the service writer my truck isn't right (they had the truck for 3 weeks). Told them if the tech missed 8 screws inside the cab what else did he/she miss under the hood and truck. Long story short, it took my truck home and went over it thoroughly and came up with 3 legal pages (front and back) of oops the tech missed this (also the after market trailer brake controller I installed wasn't working). Returned to dealership with my list (oops the tech missed or messed up) which was put on lift. Service department went over truck and fixed all issues I found. Fast forward to 2021. Front left brake line blows out and park brake cable fails (due to corrosion). I fabricate new brake line. Now in 2022 I lend truck to my brother to use and upon return I note the rear differential cover has leak (just a pin hole level with fill plug). Toyota rear ends have welded cap (unlike GM which are bolt-on). I finally source a differential cover from AutoZone and take rear out of truck. Now I find the backing plates are falling off when disassembling the rear to cut old cover off and weld new cover on. I spent months sourcing backing plates, park-brake cable and other components, seals, O-rings, and bearings from dealer in Atlanta. I put the rear back in and note all brake lines and fuel lined are corroding. I contact dealer in Atlanta and now find out no more mail order parts. I finally find dealer in near Tampa that has most of the brake lines and only some of the fuel lines (the fuel line on front of fuel filter up to frame only). 8 month later (now 2023) I get parts from Tampa dealer only after paying additional $400 in shipping (box was 6-feet long, 4-feet tall, and 6-inches wide filled with 6 brake lines, inspection plugs for rear backing plates, and 1 intermitted fuel line and two contractor bags full of shredded paper). Come on dude, get a 10-foot piece of 6-inch PVC pipe, 2 end caps pack items in pipe with paper and tape caps and send (you cannot fix stupid). Now while putting truck back together I find the replacement frame, that isn't even 12 years old is falling apart the sheets. Present day 2024, I go to local dealership and tell them the frame is falling apart. I get the runaround and am given phone number of Toyota Brand Engagement Center. I call and state the replacement frame is falling apart and am told the recall for the frame replacement ended in December 2012. I was also told the frame has to be evaluated by local dealership. Only 1 problem, I cannot drive it because I cannot find the fuel line from frame to injector rail (rusted completely through). I see Yotaparts.com has listing for part but none in stock (Toyota Motor Co. no longer supports the 2000 Tundra as all parts are now discontinued). Toyota Brand Engagement Center also say since the recall program has ended and the frame on my truck was replaced, Toyota Motor Corp. cannot reopen recall campaign. Furthermore I was told the likelihood of finding a frame for a 2000 Tundra not good since Toyota only has replacement parts for vehicles that are 10 years or less in age. It seams to be Toyota Motor Company only expects it vehicles (the frames of vehicles that resided in the snow belt) to last 10 to 12 years; after that BUY NEW TOYOTA.

Do you live in the snow belt? Or just even areas where they occasionally salt the roads?

Did you use any under carriage coating in order to protect your frame? This is common practice if you live where roads and salt mix

Common problem on these and most trucks in the salt belt. After the frame replacement, what was the corrosion prevention strategy?

I think he just wanted to vent. He was lucky enough to get a free frame but he didn’t take care of it like you should with regular undercarriage washes or some type of protective film (i.e. fluid film).

    1) it clearly states it’s a “she”
    2) i was waiting to see if they did do any preventative maintenance on the frame before i go with the “your fault for neglecting it”

Holy text wall. Anyways, Is this the fuel line you're needing? Part Number 23803-50120

EDIT: 23801-50050 fits the description of the fuel line you need.

The rest of the truck not replaced would still have corrosion and other issues down the road with all of the parts reused. If the truck wasn't thoroughly washed and preventatively treated, the ultimate fate would be that it just rusts away. A frame replacement would be a win for any owner, but the rest of the truck continues to rust away on that new frame is how I look at these types of trucks. If I got a frame replacement on one of these trucks and the rest of it was pretty rusty, I'd probably just turn around and sell it right after the replacement.

There isn’t much beyond the frame since it’s supposed to include brake and fuel lines along with LCAs (since they normally freeze up). The rear diff is the big culprit along with maybe the power steering lines that need replacement, however you can add these (with the rear diff as an exception) and get a discounted labor rate to have them done. Rear diff will have to sourced from a salvage yard unless replacing the diff cover with an aftermarket works.

There will also be holes on the bed since it hasn’t been protected from underneath. Also the potential exists for rusted rocker panels and wheel wells. If you can live with that though, I say keep it.

I'm with ya, it's just an on going battle that I've never dealt with in a rust belt state. I'd probably turn around and sell it as that's probably the highest resell value that truck would have is right after the frame replacement, just my opinion. The guys/gals in the rust belt are a different breed lol. I still remember my first time under a northern car, utter disbelief.

I think the cars down here near the coast are bad. Then I watch “just rolled in” on YouTube and see some rust belt cars/trucks and my jaw just drops.

As of a few years ago Toyota would still sell you the whole axle housing.
