Don’t have the rods and rockers on yet. Lifters are free floating.

Did anyone shop around before ordering parts this week? Serra Toyota is charging $98 after the discount for my year LBJ. That same part at Ourisman is $93(no sale). So it's still cheaper without the sale. I don't remember Serra being high before.

    Cool story, bro time.
Delivering to a customer today I noticed a new 2006 Tundra in his driveway next to his new 7.3 Godzilla. commented on the condition of his 06 and asked some questions.
RWD V6 from cali. I would have eaten off the frame (I live in Maine. If there’s no hole it’s mint). Had minor front end damage and the shop quoted the PO, woman, 4k to fix it. Bumper and grill work. She passed and didn’t want to put that much into it. Shop owner said he knew someone looking for a reliable CHEAP truck for a while. He got it for $750, 225k on the clock. Aside from clear coat peeling there’s not a spot on the truck. I offered him $1500 and he laughed
Guy got the steal of the century

Yeah it seems sus. Baby LBJ's have always been around $90. I was confused when I saw the price after the discount from Serra. I'm not gonna order any now. Mine have around 34k miles on them. Some abuse last year. Since @shifty` mentioned it solved his clunk I was considering it. My truck has gotten quieter since I tightened the sway bar links. I should probably just remove it and join the dark side.

What part #s are you getting?

Mine for the 2003 are $91.50 with Birmingham @ 25% off and free shipping.

    43340-39485 LH LBJ $91.50
    43330-39605 RH LBJ $91.50
    43346-60011 Dust Shield $18.15 x 2

    Orisman/McGeorge wants about $116/ea +$13 shipping.

But the recall kit (04005-21134) with both LBJs but no 25% off remains $187 + $10 shipping.

So does the recall kit come with the dust shields (but not the castle nuts, cotter pins, bolts)? :monocle:

Ignore what I said last night. I just checked again while sober and they are $80 after the discount for my 02. I shouldn't shop for parts after taking an edible..:anonymous:

    For my 02:
x1 Driver Lower Ball Joint 43340-39356
x1 Passenger Lower Ball Joint 43330-39466

Total price from Serra is $157 vs $242 from Oarisman. Huge savings.

I guess you work your way up into tackling more complex stuff... but doing that on what I consider a brand new truck would be awful intimidating.
Like miss one little clip/ring/orientation of a part etc... and BOOOOM, boat anchor lol. Impressive you are tackling it
Ide love to have a mentor/Mr. Miagi walk me through a complete rebuild like that.... Oh, and maybe body/paint work too.

So mine was missing the LSD sticker, and I'm trying to determine whether or not it is in fact a LSD. I've checked the fluid, it's full and clean, but where would I find the answer? I assume it has a LSD and I know there's oils that are good to use in both LSD and non LSD diffs, but would just like to know for sure...

I’m methodical and take my time. No rushing. I get at least three different sources of info to compare and learn from each what’s, proper, what’s a good shortcut and what’s a bad shortcut. Then make a plan. I’ve got the manual handy if I’m working on anything. Everything gets torqued to spec. If you need a special tool, we build or buy one. I’ve yet to have a project fail, not trying to jinx this one. Believe me, when I call Texas speed and that guy told me we installed the wrong cam I was sick to my stomach. Turns out I gave the right pn to my BIL, but he ordered a factory 6.2 cam instead when he did his rock auto order. I didn’t check the pn on the cam we got before install. My bad. Oh well, it’s a $111 dollar mistake on his part and we weren’t too far ahead that it requires major disassembly. Still on track.

Kids are what wreck my ability to focus and concentrate on a single task. And day job work. No large blocks of time to make progress on things. That’s the thing I look forward to the most about my future, if I get there. At 65, if I’m more in control of my time, I hope to do these longer projects.

Quick and dirty, jack up the rear end, then spin the tire. Both spin the same direction you've got a LSD,if they spin opposite it's open..or a worn out LSD.

Do you leave one trail or two?

The cam thing: Even I was like Oh hell no! :eek2:
Once we get a garage and I'm retired it will make a huge difference, like the time buffer wont be "You need to drive this thing to work Monday morning", or hope it doesn't rain, or wait till it's above 20 degrees.
If my white jalopy is still alive she will be getting the TB/WP job. Very grateful for the priceless info you all provide here too... on tons of things I have had to do. THX

This thing is a beast. They don't include any instructions but I'm assuming it will be easy to tell where to drill once I have it positioned. I was slightly hoping the cat guards would be orange like they are on the website. They are bigger and beefier than they look online which is good.

    PXL_20240224_173614487.jpg
