Ermagerd, less than a full tank of gas extra cost every 5k miles…not exactly going to break the bank.

No. Report(s) = more than one? Only one here at 1.8% and it wasn’t even considered Cautionary. All others have been 0.5% or less.

Excessive fuel in about half the reports I’ve seen for 3rd gen.

Thx for sharing this test result. Interesting their max on fuel dilution is >4% and this test was 3.2%. Dirt!! Wonder where that is from and how much? Not seeing viscosity and flashpoint test results. Maybe another page. I went to the Wear Check site and don’t find a cost for testing auto oil without contacting them. Know what it is by chance?

Analysis typically runs about $40-50 from any of the major companies.

Here's some insight on oil change intervals and oil types based on your intended ownership duration. Poor audio but it's an interview with a retired lead engineer from the famed Nissan GT-R twin turbo engine factory build team.

It comes down to if you're expecting your vehicle to last 200K - 300K+ miles, you need to be very OCD on oil change intervals. Only possible exception may be route or hotshot type usage whereas it's getting driven hundreds of miles a day. Otherwise normal commute cycles, short trips, or stop and go driving, frequent oil changes are in order.

If you're just leasing the vehicle and walking away from it in 3 years or 40-50K miles. You'll be fine at 10K intervals. It'll be the 2nd or 3rd owner who finds out said vehicle is a "lemon" or said manufacturer "makes junk products" when their timing chain is clattering or stretched causing check engine lights or the valve train is clattering, or even the dreaded "it's consuming excessive amounts of oil" at 100K miles.

Yep…but even the million mile tundra (hot shot driver) was getting what, monthly oil changes? That’s a whole lot of fresh oil, I’d almost bet his oil was fresher than most that change at 10k (yearly or bi yearly).

Let’s just be cheapskates, if Toyota engineers say 10k, 10k it is. In addition there are oils that will go 20k before an oil change. One a year oil changes baby!!!

I'm doing my first oil change at 1,000 miles this weekend and then I'll do one again at 5k and at every 5k past that. Using OEM oil and filter....got them just as cheap on eBay as anything else.

Careful. Lots of fake knock offs out there. If you order them online from your dealer for pickup they are $6 and change. If you walk in order over the counter they are $12 and change at the least.

Agreed. I would only buy from the dealer if you are buying OEM. I buy 2 at a time so I make less trips.

Better off doing less frequent changes and buying OEM filters. If you filter is junk then oil freshness does not matter. Same for buying el cheapo air filters

You sure? eBay is all knock offs. Amazon has some as well. I ordered a cabin air filter for wife's car that was supposedly OEM off of Amazon. It looked like a 4 yr old had made it in crafts class when it got in.

eBay is most certainly not all knockoffs. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of Toyota dealerships selling through their parts depts. via eBay.

The air filter for my wife came in an OEM box. It was trash inside. Scammers are everywhere.

I don't even trust name brand 3rd party filters. I had a $75 Fram air filter for a Duramax bought from a national parts store disintegrate and come close to blowing a turbo.

I've seen several Ecoboosts in Ford 150's actually collapse and suck the filter into the intake tube when filter is clogged on poorly maintained rigs.
It's crazy how much suction turbo chargers can create.

Stuff like this is why I wanna keep this brand new beast until it pays for itself. Bet you wish you still had that 4Runner all these years. Also roamed same areas from GG to Cerritos, miss the southland but can always visit.
