I just remembered the fist time I saw what could be considered to be porn. We were like 10 and my best friend stole his Fathers Playboy. We looked at it in the woods, then buried it there till we dug it up every week.

 

Who said porn was bad for you?

 

Plenty of studies out there on it's impacts, but I was specifically referring to children. Are you advocating for sharing it with children? Pretty sure that's illegal in most states.

My family just owned it. A cousin's husband gifted one to me and my brother, at Xmas, in front of everyone. Still to this day I'm not sure we've ever ghosted a party so quickly. Still to this day I'm also not we've ever been laughed at so hard by over 30 people, all family members no less. Grandparents down to cousins and everything in between (my youngest cousin is 10 years older than us).

It was a right of passage I guess. Just glad there were no cell phones or digital cameras back then.

You guys know anything about 4th Gen 4Rs? Friend of mine is looking at this one and wondering what she needs to look out for.

 

That link is to a 4th gen. I had an '05. Was a great rig while I had it. What I recall being common issues was front wheel bearings and sunroof component (grease the track or risk stripping the nylon cable - or something like that). It was still a mostly simple vehicle and did what you'd expect a 4Runner to do.

 

The only justification I can think of having such a “reserve” is if you are off roading and at 20 degrees(or ??), all the gas shifts and is inaccessible to the fuel pump.

My real world experience is that reserve is right at about 6 gallons, which is the same as what it was in my 2008 with the 26 gallon tank. So from that perspective, having 15% of total tank capacity as a reserve instead of 23% of total tank capacity is not a bad thing.

It's important to note that the reserve has to do with the size and shape and position of the tank - it is long and flat, and orients the long axis parallel to the truck with the pick-up roughly centered. That will mean that on any sort of up/down hill grade you're going to shift a lot of that tank capacity to one end.

I also like the fact that it means I don't have to be a nervous nelly when I'm at 1/4 tank on the fuel gage, and instead can run the tank down to E and know I've still got enough there to get me to a gas station. When I put 20-25k miles a year on, the less times I need to actually stop, the better.

In college, I had a car that was the opposite - "E" meant you are already on fumes and a strong headwind might keep you from making the next exit.
