Remembered why our trucks are the best gen as I navigated through the parking garage of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston this morning. Talk about cramped parking and tight ramp curves.

Couldn’t do that in a turd gen.

Got me thinking. Any advice on keep or selling an orignal owner '03 4x4 AC v8 @ 247k miles and pickup the last year of the best gen? Sure have liked knowing the full history as an original owner. But a full DC and few less miles sounds enticing and still affordable.

I looked into this more, only to find that Advics is apparently tied to Denso, Aisin and Sumitomo.

When you go to the Advics site, to look up their pads, their search tool goes to Aisin's website. When I look up the pads for my truck with them, they clearly show they're the OEM supplier to Toyota for this part, see the "Specifications" section below ... learned a lot today, thanks :D

..... And I've got new pads on the way. My current pads are driving me f'n nuts. I can't wait to get them out of there and replace them with ones that don't squeal like a pig.

    I was thinking 10 hours - suck it up, that's a day's drive.
Then I WTF mapped it up from here - it's 9.5 hours from here.

:curls:Recommendations on the best gen for just swapping in OEM shoes, turning the original drums, or replacing the drums with the shoes? Seems like new shoes with c-clip hardware but re-using the drums makes sense.

@ 247K miles with the slimmest part still about 3 mm (.012"). Drum IDs are stout at 295.32-295.35 mm well within spec (realize that's not measured in a groove with a drum caliper but definitely not deep to be out of spec if turned).

I’d only turn them or buy new ones if you’re having an issue with warped drums. Otherwise just replace the shoes with OEM or good aftermarket shoes. I went with Napa premium myself.

To turn or not to turn. Having no issues with pulsation either combined with front brakes or testing rear circuit only with parking brake on hill. Was thinking better to leave them unturned to retain thickness, but didn't know if folks have success with turning and then not warping l(ike fronts can do especially with non-adjusted rears).

Damn, placed my order with RA for pads just before the reply I’m quoting, like 6:55ish EST or something.

The pad/shim set was shy of $45. Which was half as much as Toyota would’ve wanted for the same parts. After tax and shipping it came in around $60. I’ll get 5% off so probably land at about $55/flat.
