Wood Grain Interior Question

Hello all. I was piddling around in the other wood grain threads and could not find an answer to my question (or probably overlooked it)

Anyway, I’ve identifies a few bezels online for the 2WD but they all are a bit expensive as opposed to their 4WD counterparts for some reason. To be specific, I have bezel with the Carho Lamp and Defrost button on the on the right hand side. Emergency flasher on the left, under the Shift L button


Is the 4WD version of the bezel above compatible with the 2WD l? I was hoping to get lucky enough for it to be compatible and just have the 2WD/4LO buttons on the clock face ignored for obvious reason

 

Wish I could help you. I think I recall that possibly some years were compatible with sequoias? if so, they would at least expand your options some

Second picture is the one I need. First picture is the one that’s for a 4WD model. Asking if the first picture is fine to place in a 2WD model and retain all functionality of the bezel, outside of the 2WD/4WD buttons on the clock

 

I'm pretty sure those are fully interchangeable

 

You’ve got a lot of fun waiting ahead of you to swap stuff over. As long as the HVAC and clock chunk get moved you’ll probably be fine, not all are cross-compatible, but potentially some work there. I’d search locations other than fleabay.

The earlier bezels have a smaller opening than the newer version

I search for parts trucks on Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp and Craigslist also. You’d be shocked at how many are out there.

 

What type of panels do you currently have? I have an 06 2WD with all the wood grain, possibly thinking about painting it or plasti-dipping it black. If you have all the black trim pieces I might be down to swap, located in GA.

 

I wish I would have made this thread 2 days ago lol. I already have bought all the other pieces. I just need the bezel at this point

 

I see lol. Well, what are you planning on doing with your old pieces? Might still be interested in taking them off your hands if they’re in good shape.

 

Well for the console and bezel I had no problem to get rid of. I was going to keep the door pieces as backups but I think I’d give it all for the bezel. I will say the cup holder trim piece of the console is missing most of all the little rubber flaps that would “ hold” a smaller cup.

 

Man I nearly had to give my minty black bezel away for free to a forum member on here.

 

If you’re buying stuff on fleabay, there’s a guy that sells those foam insert replacements. Mine turned out great.

There's a couple actually. And one of the guys selling the foams, they tend to go purple after a while if you park in the sun. The buyer I bought mine from was "eptech2003"

 

The first has the “shift L” button for the 5 speed auto. The second has a “Tundra” button. Do you need that shift L button? Can you swap the buttons from your bezel into whichever you buy?

 

You are correct. I don’t “need” the shift L button but my bezel has it. I think what I’ll end up doing is buying the 4WD bezel, switching the boards over and obsolete the buttons on the clock.

 

You can peel off the long thin flexible black plastic that covers the clock and then swap it on a different bezel. The only thing is that the adhesive on the back side of it might not restick as well. Use a heatgun or hair dryer to soften up the sticky glue. And clean your hands really well before hand so that the oils don't contaminate the sticky stuff. Better yet, just make sure you don't touch the sticky stuff at all.

 

Whether you plan to use it, or it’s actually required for the truck to function properly may be two different things. I’m not sure as my truck has the 4 speed and no shift-L

 

i don’t believe it’s necessary. It only engages if you toggle it and to do so you have to specifically put the rig in 2nd gear first. Like I said I’ll get the bezel with the Shift-L button already available so hopefully it won’t be an issue either way

 

If you peel off this "long thin flexible black plastic ... cover" deal does it free the buttons? I ask because I want to swap the "Auto LSD" button in one bezel for a diff. lock button from another bezel. But even when I open it up and remove the circuit boards from the back of the bezel, the actual button part is still trapped in the bezel somehow.

Does peeling off the cover separate the 4WD buttons from the bezel? Thanks.

 

It’s been a minute, but i think i had to pry the 4wd buttons out from the back of the dash bezel? I think they were clipped in?..or maybe it was smaller #1 phillips screws? I can’t remember if there were any errant springs in there that would try to make a break for freedom or not.

I don’t think pealing off that plastic strip has anything to do with the switches themselves. All it was is to cover up the holes where a switch would reside.

 

Thanks! I got brave and tried prying. Yes, the button is 2 parts that clip to each other. Pry them apart and one part comes out the back and the other out the front of the bezel. No springs, no removal of the sticky bits required. Yay!
