Hey so I am interested in adding a shallow mount 12” subwoofer behind the back seat of my crewmax. I would probably look for a wedge type box or build my own wedge box.
I have seen a ton of pictures of people putting boxes behind the seat but all the photos I find have the plastic behind the seat removed for more room. Has anyone not removed the plastic? Any pics?

It’s not plastic. It’s a very thick pad that goes between the back of the seat and the back wall of the cab. I actually installed 2 stereo integrity bm12mk5 and left the pad in place. stereo integrity is coming out with a bm11 11 inch sub that will fit nicely behind the seat.
that being said, the next time I dive in and the back seat comes out for any reason I’m going to remove the thick pad. The subs are to tight against the back seat. I don’t think they touch but I also don’t hammer the bass either. But looking at them they are very close to the back of the seat. Just sound deaden the back wall very well and you should be good.

Been waiting for the weather to improve so we can finish up the new box for my CrewMax. Shooting for a single DD Audio 12” SL600 in about 1.2 ft3 tuned to 35hz. It’s no fun to work on things outside in the winter, and I’ve got a lot of other things going on that seem to get in the way…

We ordered a 10 also, in case we can’t get the 12 to fit. Dropping to the 10 will allow us to lower the driver location on the front of the box and have a little more depth.

If all goes well, I’m hoping over the next few weekends…. With a daughter in club volleyball that travels, my fishing habit, and other general life, it’s tough to carve out a day to dart around with stereo stuff!

I just noticed you have a 2010. The rear seats are different prior to 2014. I’m not familiar with your seat, but believe you’ve got more options than the 2014+ trucks.

I took the carpet piece to an upholstery shop and had it covered with vinyl. Reinforced the cutout for the plastic tabs. I got tired of it attracting dog hair and was a pain to remove.

What does tuned to 35hz mean?

Port tuning to a specific frequency. In this case, 35hz. That’ll be the “sweet spot” where the enclosure is most efficient.

In a simpler term, it’s to make it not sound like shit. There’s a lot more to making your sub(s) sound good than simply slapping some MDF together and screwing a speaker into it.

But something to consider when it comes to port tuning. Speaker manufacturers will typically tell you what the best tuning frequency for a sub is. But it also depends on what type of music you listen to. But around 32-35 is a good starting point. Stereo integrity recommends about 25-28 for their subs. I know you’re not using one of those but just as an example. Just something to consider.

I actually bought one of those but never ended using it. Sold the truck and returned it to Crutchfield. How does it sound? I feel like for 350$ I can 10” entry level sub, box and amp.

It actually sounds great honestly. And I got mine used (but never installed) for a lot less than $350.
