Yeah, it's very mild and was just going to leave it be but this thread convinced me otherwise. It can always be turned back on.

Now that I read what folks are saying here, I’m not sure if I have this “added” engine sound that comes with JBL. I have an SR5 with “premium” audio, but not the Janky Bullshit Lackluster audio. :notsure:

anyway, the tow mirrors and the SR5 highway noise in general softens anything I can hear pretending or real from the front of the fire wall.

Interestingly enough I turned mine off a few months ago and recently I feel like it turned itself back on.

I just realized I left my Carista plugged in and I just took my truck to the dealership for the 5000 mile check up. Lol

I turned it off and find the sound system much more enjoyable. The sound doesn't get all muddy while driving.
To be clear, the stock sound system still sucks. But it's a lot better with the fake engine sound turned off.

I read this whole thread and didn’t find a single comment about why it is a pretty bad idea to have this added sound.

Of all the things you use to notice a developing problem in your truck, the 2 most important are feeling vibrations and hearing the sounds. If you become familiar with the sounds your truck makes when properly running you are far more likely to notice a change.
    Just my 2 cents….

I turned mine off recently and I'm glad I did. The truck sounds fine without it. I do notice a few more rattles now but I agree with being able to listen for maintenance issues.

It was worth the $45 bux for Carista to turn it off. Sounds a lot better and I can hear the turbooo. I don't need fake, I need real

Out boating one day and we hit something at slow speed thru a channel. Felt nothing, come out of channel get up to power, my wife and I noticed the vibration instantly…. The other 12 in the boat did not.

I picked it up in NC and drove back to Georgia. The wife thought there was a motorcycle riding next to us. If I had my Carista with us I would have shut it off sooner.

I turned it off via Carista. It was overbearing in hindsight. I like to hear the turbos spool up, ambient noises, etc. My F150 EcoBoost didn’t have fake V8 growl, sounded similar to my Tundra. Who am I fooling? I bought a Turbo V6. I didn’t buy a V8.

I turned mine off via Calista and while I thinks it’s better overall without it but I do miss some of the ‘enhanced’ sound. I had a Genesis that had similar artificial sound and in the settings you could adjust the level, from off, to low, mid, and high. Wish our trucks had this option.

Perhaps my old ears have been subjected to too many gun shots and loud music over the years. I don't even notice the enhanced engine noise, neither does my wife who still has good hearing. But I very rarely drive without the radio on, so maybe that's why.

Or, is it possible this "feature" was never turned on in my truck?

I have a 1794 with the JBL system. I thought all 3rd Gen Tundras with the JBL have the enhanced engine noise.

Now, I have to take a drive with the radio off, just to see if I notice it.

I add artificial snoring to my bed, add microphones so my kids are even louder, amplify my neighbors music, etc. I even asked my Dr. if he could somehow add tinnitus to my hearing. Not sure why he seemed confused by the request. Extra noise for no reason is awesome!

Definitely comes down to personal preference but I had mine turned off today and am enjoying the newfound quiet. I no longer find myself hesitating to add more throttle after initial tip-in now that the artificial engine noise is gone. Besides, if you turn it off and miss it there’s no reason you can’t go back.

David, it was the only thing I did not like about my purchase. To me, it sounded more like someone gargling with rocks than a V8. And coming from a Limited Longhorn, I know what a v8 sounds like. I had it turned off immediately and was very happy I did. Now, it sounds like a v6, which is fine for now.

Is it possible someone paste a snippet of the portion of their service receipt that shows the dealer modification to eliminate the sound?

Honda has been doing the opposite for some time now, a "counter" engine sound (noise canceling) from audio system to quiet the engine sound on upper trim Accords and others.

This was the exact reason I just bought Carista and turned i off. I was worried the piped in "fake" engine noise may mask an issue that you might hear and the longer it is masked the worse the issue could get. Plus, I figured what is the point anyway? Ego? You want your truck to sound beefier than it actually is? Then go out and buy a V8 then.

Did wound up going to the dealer last week to get it turned off but man some kind of cold got me good this past week and pretty much kicked my ass good…lol

Now that I’m feeling better and back on here I can tell you I too prefer the sound off.

Not like it’s all of a sudden so quiet in the truck due to the noise being off and in my opinion the truck sounds just fine “normal” really just the way it is.

With the fake noise on the truck sounded like something that it wasn’t in my opinion, like I had work done or something.

Also had the dealer de-activate the tailgate release with the key fob as I was nervous about accidentally hitting the button on day.

Had an accident with it one day during a fishing trip in which someone let the tailgate down while the boat was still attached and hit the hitch release, that sure did suck and I’ve been paranoid ever since. Not just a small dent but chipped the paint a bit too ;(
