Hi everyone. While trying to install the rough country tailgate lift assist strut I ended up stripping the below screw (the one on left closest to truck bed when tailgate is down). This is a T40 torx head screw that sits flush to the tailgate side wall, so there is nothing I can grab like if it were a bolt. Not sure if they put thread locker on these screws or if the metal for the head is just softer/weaker? But I am SOL and wondering how I can get it out now. Anyone have a goto method for backing out a stubborn screw whose head is all stripped out?
    Thanks in advance

Never used one - nor know what it is.

is that the same thing as what this guy talks about as an “extractor bit set” at the 1:07 mark?

Don't think this screw was ever meant to be backed out, look at the teeth on this thing.

I tend to agree. Interesting that the other screw to the right of it backed out no problem. It also has some teeth but was definitely easier to turn than the other. I don’t like the rough country lift assist design for this reason, but didn’t realize
What I was getting into until it was too late. I will try a reversing kit though as posted above. Thanks everyone. Please keep posting ideas if there is a method that has worked for anyone else.

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I ended up getting this extractor drill bit set from Home Depot.

    https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwaukee-M2-Steel-Screw-Extractor-Set-4-Piece-49-57-9001/325254980

Seemed to get the best reviews (in my area anyway). Took a couple tries but I eventually got it out using this set and an impact driver. Tailgate assist installed which lets the tailgate down slowly. I guess I like it in the end. It was just a little more time consuming than I had thought since I had to take a trip to the hardware store. Otherwise would have been a 5 min install.
