What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Does anyone know if the grease "boot" on the slip yoke is replaceable? I looked all over the parts site and don't see a part number for it.

 

I think the seal is not replaceable. Mine has been leaking for years. I regrease and it throws it back out over time. It’s my corrosion prevention strategy.

Before anyone says it; yes, its as close to level as I can get it currently. I need an 00 to 04 subframe for the front as sone one did an 05/6 conversion shittaly.

That's how I look at my oil leaks. If there ain't no oil coming out of it, there ain't no oil in it.

 

Maybe you can plug it? Something with a small neck and flared base?

Been awhile since I've commented (like 2 years?)
Took the truck in this morning for its now annual rust treatment/coating. After leaving heard some clunks happening in the front end at slow speed turns. Didn't happen this morning on the way in. Figured it was caused from the coil overs getting coated and sticking or popping in the cup. Let the shop owner know and he said since its lanolin based, it should actually quiet down suspension parts and not cause resistance anywhere. Can't replicate it regularly, did donuts in the parking lot, seems to be driver side only, and only a single clunk like something is popping into or out of position.

As a part of diving into it, I now am paranoid I need to replace the LBJ bolts from when I installed new LBJs and reused the bolts. Anyone confirm the part number and torque for a 2005?

Also after climbing under the truck to look around, found the transmission side CV boot on the passenger side is completely torn at the clamp, and the driver side is cracking. So I wonder if it is the CVs starting to click and pop. Going to get in there and finally install the high angle boots I bought a year ago and repack them. Also looks like the LCA bushings are cracking pretty pad. So down the clunk path I go.

On the list this week is oil/filter change, lubing the drive shaft and UCAs, power steering drain/fill, wipers, and going to try the camry door check modification on the rear passenger door.

The pop when turning could definitely be a cv, especially if you've lost a lot of grease. How old are the lbjs do you reckon? New parts rarely hurt...well, just your wallet, anyway.

I think this is the lbj bolt for your year. Not sure on the torque spec though...sorry, reread your post and you're just worried about the bolts, not the lbj itself.

Yea they are about 2 years old. Got them from Roman at Cool Springs. Just tracked down my old receipt to confirm if I added the bolts to the order and surely I did not. Thanks for that link, I'll just add them to my already growing order and try and confirm torque specs.

When I added the OME lift and diff drop (also about 2 years ago) they flung grease pretty much immediately. I pulled them back and repacked the best I could from under the truck and replaced the clamps. Haven't seen any since then. On the torn one I found today I pulled it back and it still has alot of grease in there. Just hoping they aren't done for. Also caught up on toyota discontinuing the reman CVs and that really bums me out and increases my cost if I do have to replace the whole assy.

Any good tips on how to tell if they are toast when I pull them out? Just lots of slop and play?

It should be in mine as well, but someone's 400 hp daily decided it "needs" a so called "new clutch" and a watwr punp. And at 1600 for the clutch and 400 for the pump, well tundra had to nut up for daily shit. Lol

Yeah the loss of remans really sucks. Clicking and popping have always been the tell for me, at least that it's time to prepare for a replacement, anyway. Excess vibration can be a symptom if it's the inner joint.

I ended up taking my diff drop out. Seemed like whatever "help" it was giving the axles, came at the cost of the angle of the front driveline. It was growling at me pretty quickly after installing. Just my opinion.

Naw I like an idiot sold my 03 GLI VRT. Got an 13 GLI non MQB with all the APR bolt on shit and stage 2+ software. Getting ready to go big turbsksi on that. And I have a project Corrado. Working on an 800hp and R32 swap in that.

But iused to daily my 03 GLI, 435whp 444wtq. Kit was capible of 500 plus. But factory internals are only rated to 500, so detuned it a little. Still stupid fucking fast
