Overhyped here. We’ll be getting 2” at most. South of Boston though, the rest of my family is getting hammered.

RE: this NOLA / NYC topic ...

I think a lot of it is perspective too. If you're accustomed to living in the 'burbs or exurbs or out in the country, and you go to a major city with heavy density, you're probably going to feel like a fish out of water, things are going to look dirtier than you may expect because there's an assload more businesses, people, cars, tourists, etc. I also think what you expect with NYC and NOLA is highly dependent on WHEN and WHERE you choose to go. More on that in a sec.

Granted, NYC has struggled a lot post-lockdowns. Some places way worse than others. If you were to go into downtown ATL post-lockdowns, you'd see a lot of the grime present in NOLA or NYC. NYC definitely seems to've had more issues with getting back on its feet after, and is far dirtier.

NOLA is what it is. If you're in the French Quarter, it's gonna be grimey, that's the nature of the beast. It's no worse than Music Row up in Nashvegas. I was just in NOLA a few months ago, and it was fine. I typically stay in the Garden, and it's a neighborhood in a city, just like any other, with neighborhood restaurants. Shit doesn't start getting grimy till you head north toward the Pontchartrain (90), those last couple blocks before you get to it, and the WWII museum is literally on the other side.

But I'll tell you: I've only ever had one situation in NOLA where I didn't feel safe, and that was cutting from Freret back to the Garden through Milan at night. But it rings true: Know your place, there are places you just don't go - I knew better, and nothing happened, but was I not more aware, and a dude that spotted us didn't know I knew what was up, it probably wouldn't have ended well. NYC I'm pretty clueless about. But there aren't many places in BK, which is where I normally end up hovering around because my friends are there, I feel like are "slummy", "dirty", or "sketch".

When I go to places like NOLA, I know to avoid when major events are happening. You can't judge NOLA by its conditions at Mardi Gras, for example. You can't judge NOLA by what you saw in the French Quarter and surrounding area.

I dunno. I think a lot of it is perspective. Grit and dirt are to be expected in a high-density city. People make dirt. When the population is 100,000 times more people than a "clean" small town, you're going to see 100,000x more filth.

I haven't been to the one in SD, but I thoroughly enjoyed the Palm Springs air museum when I went. https://palmspringsairmuseum.org/

I absolutely agree with you. Everything is really dependent on perspective and experience. That's with all subjects as well. I love to travel because it challenges our current perspectives by experiencing new people, food, thoughts, living styles and really everything. I think that traveling really helps to grow beyond what we are currently.

I agree. And I forgot to mention the best thing we saw in NYC was the 9/11 memorial and museum. For anyone visiting for the first time I would recommend that. The food was good too. Just horribly expensive.

Toronto was waaaaaaay cleaner than NYC. And there was no garbage on the street or buildings wrapped in scaffolding. Still. After 7 years.

Im glad for this info! I visitors the Quarter numerous times ~ 20 years ago, but never knew about this museum. I plan to go with my family later this year; my son is a military history buff, so this will add value for sure!

also, for others reading and interested in best restaurants off the beaten path: Irene's.

Quoting myself, LAME. Asked my NO Higgins connection, no relation. Bummer. His grandfather did parachute into Normandy (Didn't even get to ride in his namesake boat??) and was awarded silver star and purple heart and inspired him to join the Airborne Rangers. Cool story anyway.

Honestly, I'm not normally a fan of museums, but I'd also recommend the Ogden Museum which is practically on the same block. The stuff they have from southern artists in that place is f'n nuts.

Oh and for restaurants, hidden gems ... Coquette. Magazine street itself is loaded with tons of awesome restaurants, but Coquette is sort of nondescript, unremarkable outside. Great food and cocktails.

So, how does the plastic "fitting" attach into the housing? Looks to me like ya would want to cut the breather off, add a nipple type coupling and extend the hose to a safer location..

parachuting sounds pretty exhilarating. Parachuting into a human blender of mortar fire, machine gun fire, ants crawling around and over each other stabbing and shooting at one another waiting, hoping you don’t get shot down before you land, or get caught in the human blender when you do. Then actually surviving it and having to move on after seeing and experiencing such an event. Just wow. Greatest generation indeed.

I've never messed with mine and I don't know how much room is in there to work with, but I would just eliminate the stock hose completely and run a longer one straight from the trans housing to keep it simple.

I am concerned about how brittle the plastic fitting may be along with how difficult it is to remove the old and install the new onto that fitting. Thought that a coupling might be easier. Never ran my hand up there so I don't know..

I've got an extra large & a size small, but they're just annoying for the most part. Definitely a better finished product when it's just me & Shovel.

My back hurts thinking about the Toro 2450. Years ago when I was on a shovel crew I used one to clear the bulk of snow from stairs.

Also works pretty well for clearing roofs.

Stairs? Toro makes their electric shovel for that. Can’t say I’ve used a snowblower on a roof, but those single stage are nice for clearing down to the pavement so long as you don’t let the heavy wet stuff get too deep.

Years ago on campus we had 2 flights between the academic and dorms, probably 25 steps on each maybe 16 feet wide. Shoveling by hand took forever if there was more than 2 inches of snow so we'd each take a half with the blower. You probably would have needed 200 feet of cord to hit the nearest outlet.

Of course after I changed jobs they decided to demo the stairs and turn it into terraced green space.

Only worse thing I did on that shift was cleaning windows inside of an elevator shaft. Started out fun riding on top of the car but once the sun came up it was brutal.

Forgot that I checked my fluids when I got to work, and was gonna top off my oil but didn't have any. Subsequently, I never put my Fill cap back on.

Worked my shift, and then started to smell oil 40 miles later...
