Does accidentally sack tapping yourself with a 4' straightedge qualify for the Home Improvement thread??

 

Aren't you required to yell at a 1st-year apprentice when that happens, and tell them to fetch the pipe stretchers or breaker fluid?

Only if it's the 'edge' of the straightedge and not the flat part!!!

 

So, this I have a problem with (the concept of it) as I could give a fuck what they do...

They jump on board w/offering a product (more like a service) at a much reduced rate (from traditional cab service, etc.); they were happy to take the work cuz they could make their own hours, decide to whom and when to provide service, etc.. (a huge benefit to the employee that's not afforded in traditional employment). They are also able to bypass most of the traditional background/screening, etc. within the hiring processes (work cards, fingerprints, etc.)... In doing so, they had a negative impact on the cab industry which had much more oversight (not only in terms of regulation and restrictions), but also in terms of hiring standards, backgrounds, etc (making it a bit safer for the rider); most of which was policed by LE dedicated to taxi service in large metro areas (similar to gaming and control boards in NV that have some employees w/state based police power and authority)...

Anyhow, now after they've 'voluntarily' taken jobs in these industries knowing exactly what they will be making w/large portion of the income being based on tips and such they want to cry about how unfair life is

Yep. It was actually nice there today since a lot of peeps are not there on Monday.

 

The trend is also for parents to let their kids make their own decisions on everything without providing any guidance or setting expectations. Drives me nuts.

I asked my son if he wanted to get his license when he turned 16 and he said “No”.

I told him when he was 16, we had the same expectations for his extracurricular activities but I was retiring from driving his ass.

Problem solved.

Bummer. Sucks that you're not feeling great. Glad you're smart enough to take it easy to recover though.

 

I'll say it again; We are due for a plague and covid was a disappointment.

My 7 & 10 y/o cruise everywhere on the 4wheelers already, plan on getting them on a tractor by 12 and driving back roads by 14.

The suffering and misery would be awful, but do you legitimately think we would not be improved at a societal and species level if we had a plague that wiped out 15-25% of the population? Would all the bitching and moaning of 1st world problems really matter? Would anyone give a fuck about their feelings being accepted in society or their delusions being supported if survival was on the line? Hard times make the people who survive it strong, and if we're lucky the really stupid and evil ones would be the bulk that are wiped out.

 

I honestly don’t think it would change anything.

 

What if it's all the best and brightest who are wiped out and the aftermath looks like Idiocracy?

 

I think we're getting close to that now!

Holy crap I can not comment on these last few posts (not just your's G) w/o diving deep into the NO-NO zone....

I will say though that it's funny how kids that are currently being raised w/values and priorities similar to those from a few decades ago don't seem to have the same 'issues'; even though they are being raised in our current times.

Leaves me feeling like it still falls back on the parents to teach their children (as it should be) right from wrong; good from evil; doing what's right regardless of what others are doing; and that schools, online resources, TV, etc. are NOT the authority in their development... Those that have chose to not 'parent' their children and allow it to be done by society and its outlets are seeing the downfall and how generations will become dependent and reliant on the 'system'...

 

Dunno if you have ever watched The Expanse series on Amazon, but their concept of “basic” is applicable here.
