Why is it such a Unicorn? It's exactly what I want, and been looking for one for a couple months. Only found one or two, not equipped as I want. Does Toyota build them in batches? Should I just go ahead and buy something that's not exactly what I really want, or will we see more of them this spring?

TRD Air Filters, Front door windows tinted to match the rears. Wheel locks, Talons Garage cat shield, Tyger Automotive soft tonneau cover, WeatherTech floor mats with Tuff Skinz Custom Emblem kit, Toyota OEM Emblem Black Out kit. AVS vent covers on all four doors, Red Tundra letters on front bumper & TRD highlighted in Red on front grille. Tailgate Tundra Letters in Black.
Curious did you see a double cab?

my last Tundra was a 2017 double cab and it’s night and day between the 2022 design.

the demand has been for the crewmax. Toyota typically builds for what sells. They might build a handful of double cabs in relation to a fleet of crewmax’s.

If you go on YouTube they have a channel called TundraDude 34 and he does a comparison of the Tundra double cab which he currently owns and what he used to have a new Tundra crewmax.

If you really want the double cab your local dealer should be able to network with other Toyota dealers to help find your unicorn.

Yeah, I've seen one, and it works for what I want. No one has sat in the backseat of the last 3 trucks I've owned. I wish they still made the access cab, that would work better for me. I want the 6.5 bed with a shorter wheelbase.

Local dealer was negative about finding one in the next couple months, but think he was hoping I'd change my mind and take something off his lot

Are you going to keep it for a long time (5, 8, 10 years) or are you planning to only keep it for a couples of years? If you're keeping it for a long time...take my advice and wait to find what you want. It's too big of a purchase to have regrets.

haha. He didn't ask you to try and talk him out of buying a DC.

For some folks, like me, a DC makes more sense than a CM. Maybe it makes sense for him too?

Yeah, I could probably even get by with a single cab, but having some space for storage behind the seat is better.

I was looking for the same thing and jumped on one when I found it. Same reasons as you, too. I had a sierra 1500 crewcab with the 6.5 bed and loved the bed but hated the wheelbase. The limited tundra is the only extended cab on the market with the equipment I wanted.

I feel you. I saw a single cab early 2nd Gen for sale the other day and I really, really thought about buying it. I thought about it much longer than my wife liked. haha.

The CM will hold resale at a higher percentage than a DC, but I don't haul people. It's just my wife and I plus our 2 dogs. I'm actually waiting on a SHW backseat delete for my DC. They're on a 12 week lead time so I'm still a good 8 weeks away from it. I do like the small back area for storage though. Going to make a modular bed/cushion for the seat delete platform for the dogs.

Back to your question...they are super hard to find. I initially wanted a Limited trim for all of the goodies, but ultimately landed on a mid-option'ed SR5. There are a few things I wish I had held out for, but ultimately, I've been pretty happy. I would've liked to have the JBL because I love my music, but I've heard people say it's pretty so-so.

Yeah, it's always a trade off. Couple of things the limited has I really want, ventilated seats for one.

I just hate to buy one that's not exactly what I want, and then see a flood of them the next month, like usually happens to me.

An SR5 and upgrading your seats (katskinz, etc) could get you where you want. I'm not sure about all of the 3rd gen differences between the limited and SR5 trim, but that's what I did with my 2.5. I didn't and don't want a sunroof, but wanted leather seats, didnt care about parking sensors, I have all 4 windows as auto up/down thanks to aftermarket, where limited is "limited" to just the front 2 currently, dual climate would be nice, but not necessary. Etc.

I owned my SR5 DC since 12/21 and I can count on one hand how many double cabs I’ve seen in person since then. I love mine though. Definitely keep hunting

I couldn't find a new one exactly what I wanted but found a lightly used one with all I needed. Best of all it had the factory auto leveling for the rear.

Yeah, mine is the DC TRD-OR Limited - my kids are older and driving themselves everywhere so I preferred this setup. I’ve loved it - generously outfitted also with h/v seats, h steering wheel, and upgraded sound etc. No regrets!
