What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Sad day, fellas. My new stereo arrived and, when I went out to inspect the situation, found out the factory wiring harness was cut.

When I bought the truck (back in 06 or 07), part of the agreement was that the dealer fix the stereo, as it never worked. Well, when they put in the single din player, they must've cut the original harness. At least they were kind enough to leave the 2 connectors still attached to a single wire each...but, damn, man.

I have a couple adapters coming so I can re-wire and then attach the new stereo, but...damn, man.

I finally found a window to replace the D light in my instrument cluster. I haven't ever messed with trying to take the cluster out before. It was really straightforward and maybe took 20 min total.
Found this light on the website we go to for most things, and it fit perfectly and matches the other lights.

That option is certainly better priced. I wanted to have something that matched the brightness and color of the other lights, but I may go that direction if anymore burnout.

Yeah, you know that's the type of seller you want to deal with when they're posting the prices other trucks have sold at, and that they've already turned down a $24k offer.

And the airbag light is on, but "it never bothered me"

 

I went to the junk yard today, just looking for head light blinker tie bolts. Walked out with like 20 front end bolts, glove box hing bolts, and new fog light plus ad mine were cut at some point. Found some other stuff...... Some pics may hurt your feelings

I don't know where these guys find these trucks but they always have them. Always lift them, do the timing belt, coat the frame, etc. They had a dark purple 1st gen, like 5-6 years ago, that might have been the coolest truck I'd ever seen. Should've paid the $18k back then!

 

Does your truck have the in dash amp behind the climate controls? If it does you're in luck. Unplug it and buy a $10 harness and you're set. Pics may help if you're not sure.

 

The low miles are impressive.

 

Quick reason to move the cluster to LED? Usually have dash fairly dim. Is it to just increase bulb longevity and not brightness? The kick panels, overhead, reverse, and cargo lamps would all seem to benefit from increased light output.

 

Interesting. I wonder if they might do restoration work too. Probably not cost effective but still, I might consider it if I stumbled on the cash. The list of work to do is long.

Definitely. Even that 07', if that was a double-cab... I'd probably go buy it now! My AC is gonna get even tighter when baby #2 shows up in a week.

 

For $15, this Chinese angle grinder is getting it done. Just hard to hit the tight spaces.

 

Be sure to hit that with some Naval Jelly after, it'll neutralize the rust down in the pits and valleys.

Yes, I believe they own it now. You should really have a bottle. It's one of those tools that, if you're dealing with rust on something where liquids won't work well (i.e. not a perfectly flat panel), you can't beat the stuff. And it eats rust like nobody's business. Just read the instructions!

Today I successfully extended the range on my rs3200 keyless system, from 5-10 feet before, to about 30 yards now. I could have never locked/unlocked my truck with my key fobs from inside the house before. Or from the mailbox to the garage. Stoked.

All you gotta do is locate the RS3200's ECU, behind the gauge cluster, then undue the largest plug, locate the grey wire on the end of the plug, opposite side of the retention clip. Then splice into it with a 3 to 4 foot wire and run it up the A-pillar, into the headliner.

 

Dude if you needed fogs you should said something. My old fogs are just sitting in the lower half of my bumper lol

Yes, I did this one my 99 Tacomas rs3000 over a decade ago and it worked great. On my Tacoma I was able to trace the grey antenna wire from the plug on the rs3000 module to where it was wrapped around the steering wheel. I unraveled it and ran it up the A-pillar into the headliner. I didn't even have to splice anything. My taco range after that was so much, that I could hit the unlock and it would automatically lock before I made it to the truck sometimes, because of the 30 second timer you have to open the door.

 

I’ll open mine up in a little bit and check it out.

 

Why not just ground it to the chassis, then the entire truck will be the antenna?
