I was doing some work under the hood and I broke a bolt off of a clip that holds a hose in place.

    1. Does anybody know what the clip is called that the bolt holds in place so I can try to get a bolt to replace it? I just have the hose zip tied right now, and it's not too stable. You can see the clip near my finger in the pic.

    2. Just out of curiosity, what is the hose that the clip holds? Is that an engine coolant hose? I traced it down to its end but didn't know what it is attached to. It was attached to something near a pulley on the serpentine belt on the driver's side. Thanks!

Pretty sure it's just a clamp to keep that line in a specific place. Not critical.

I don’t know. Although that hose doesn’t get close to the fan. I’m pretty sure Toyota has it mounted up there for the “just incase”

Nope it doesn't look critical, but I'm just trying to keep everything in good shape, so I don't want that hose bouncing around in there and working something loose or wearing something out by rubbing over time.

I plan to keep this truck for when I retire and sell my car thats my daily driver when that time comes, so I'm trying to just keep everything in good shape.

    Thanks!

That's your low side A/C hose. It goes from the fire wall to the compressor. I personally would secure it. I would be afraid of wearing a hole in it or possibly breaking a crimp connection from the hard line to the hose due to vibrations.

I would drill it out with a lefty cobolt drill bit. Good candidate to hone that skill since it’s easy access and the angle is ideal.

Yup, that's what I'm hoping to do. I just have to figure out what to replace the broken bolt with.

I looked thru the exploded diagrams and came up empty - no bolt showing, not even in the fastener/clamp section.

I'm sure it's a standard bolt. Do you have a bolt thread/pitch gauge you can run the shaft thru, or a box of bolts you can test-thread?

It's an M6x1.0, approx. 15mm length. There's an aluminum threaded sleeve in that plastic. Be careful when you drill it out. You should be able to get it with an easy out. If you do end up messing it up, just drill it out completely and secure it with a nut and lock washer on the bottom side with whatever diameter bolt is appropriate.

I don't think I have any that size laying around, but I can track down a gauge.

Pop the stub out. Carry it to any Ace Hardware. Their juts and bolts section has gauges you can use. Pick up an adequate length bolt while there.

You can also try to soak it in pb blaster, use a dremel to slot it and a flat head screwdriver to back it out. I never have much success using the drill extractors….i am sure it is operator error in my case

That clamps holds an AC line in place.

Could soak it in PB Blaster for a bit, then try a drill extractor.
