Out of the blue I got a 10 year extended warranty letter for frame rust on my 2001 Tacoma. I was the 3rd owner and it had over 100,000 miles on it. Just 3 years ago, I purchased a used 2015 Prius V (station wargon) for less than $10,000. It had 95,000 on it. The brake booster started having an issue. Toyota replaced it for free (over $3,000 repair) and put me in a rental car while it was being done. I was the 3rd owner on that one as well.

On the flip side, had a 2003 Honda Element where the AC compressor failed around 80,000 miles. I had to replace the entire AC system out of my pocket because metal went into the system. I found out years later this was bad part issue. Honda never reached out to reimburse. Plus I stopped looking at used Honda Odysseys after they had so many transmission issues that were not covered.

I'd say in my case Toyota has been much better.

Right Subaru gave me a 10 year unlimited mileage small block replacement on the EJ25 motor used in the WRX STI. Toyota owns 25 percent stake in Subaru and both Subaru/ Toyota have great customer service.

pictures pls - 8^0 - and you wonder why Americans have an Igloo (not allowed to say Eskimo anymore) view of everything north of the 49th.
yeah, Buses have engines over the rear drive wheels - they can go through everything with good tires.
Anyone thats driven the old bugs knows what I am talking about. My '96 993 would be a great winter vehicle.

regarding the Honda Subaru Toyota discussion. Those have been our daily driver main brands with Toyota and Honda alternating.
There has always been a Subaru in the driveway since the late 80's. Back then locally owned " Jaguar & Other Fine Cars" what the dealer was called, used to import them. It was funny to sit in the new at the time Subaru Legacy and then hop into a Jag - lol. Running salesman joke was owners have both brands because their Jag is in the shop more.

re: Honda I find it interesting that Honda and Acura owners want reliable but are frugal too. Otherwise Acura owners would be driving German cars. This from Acura owners I know including people of German background. In the Boating world and on the Dirt - Honda Outboards and ATV's and Side by Sides are at the Top.

I'm now looking at a 40 mile commute soon because in this market and these interest rates, I had to look further away from Tampa for home. If I changed companies and had to provide my own vehicle to commute, I'd keep my truck but would find a used 4 cylinder Camry to commute with. MPG problems solved.

I am looking forward to see how this 4 cylinder turbo Silverado does with more highway mileage mixed it. Then again it isn't rated that great anyway.
    -----
20 city and 23 highway MPG

2.7L Turbo engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and gets 310 HP and 348 lb. -ft. of torque. It also gets up to 20 city and 23 highway MPG.

reminds me how we used to tell (well brag) to our kids that we would walk to school with the snow waist high. Sit in an empty classroom with 2 maybe 3 kids - then they sent you home. lol Now there are snow days for kids.

I think our American friends have us beat when it comes to snow - by a long shot - thanks to Buffalo.
There is a reason the lakes here are called Great.

    https://weather.com/storms/winter/video/looking-back-at-record-buffalo-snow-from-2014

I make popcorn if the Bills are playing a team like Miami during or after a snowstorm.

Lake Simcoe froze over as far as you can see this week. We will probably hear about ATV's going through the ice soon. Supposed to be raining mid week.

Toyota now offers a lift kit for 22+ Tundras.
includes Bilstein shocks and Roush control arms.
The US Toyota site for this option does not show a dollar figure.

$9000 cdn dollars. see attached Doesn't include tires and wheels.

Ford offers different lift kits. They seems to start around $1400 US plus labor.
This one doesnt include the control arms. Does Ford offer a comparable kit?

    https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-18000-F15B

I know my servicing Toyota dealer has been doing lifts to accommodate bigger tires on the side for customers. But this is a lift option and they recommend keeping the OEM tires. Why $9000.

    What a minute.
This kit makes the SR5 more capable than the TRD Pro

Kai discusses the new TRD Lift Kit.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=03JkV4wr2PU

His consensus - If you offroad slow speed overlanding this kit is better than what comes on the TRD PRO.
TRD Pro is for higher speed 40 mph offroad where it is better to have a lower center of gravity.
C'mon... who the hell does high speed offroad here outside of Dr. Z.

This Kit in parts alone is $5500 cdn. The labor time is 20 hours.
My hope is it comes out in a trailhunter model soon.
I would never remove new parts of a new truck and replace. I used to do that when I was 19.
I think I have grown up a little since then. 8^0
    The way I see it.
I will never get back the Cab and bed space they took away.
The 3rd Gen lacks articulation for offroad from the previous Gen - this brings that back.
Maybe a V8 option is next. 8^0 hah hah

    About 6800 US.

I would guess this is designed to sell to people who will be attracted by a factory warranty and the convenience of burying the cost in a 60-plus month payment over paying outright for an aftermarket lift. That's probably somewhere under 200 per month extra Canadian in a longer finance plan and a bit over 100 US and some people will probably see that as good deal.

Doubt a bunch of people will take trucks back in and write a check for this but a good number will probably do it at point of sale. When I was shopping for F150s around here I chased down some ads to find out the dealer sent the truck back out soon as they got it for about a few grand in suspension mods and maybe a 5-6K supercharger with the intention of marking it up 20 or 30K. Sometimes even more. Some People will choke down quite the modification package price tag if it's warranteed and they can bury it in a car note. Manufacturers know it, dealers know it.

There are people doing this Lift at point of sale. They are posting here both in separate threads and in the Lift thread. If enough people show interest I believe it is Toyotas intent to have a Trailhunter model like Tacoma, that includes this kit from the factory.

IMO Too many people lift their truck (shocks and springs) and do not account for the geometry changes and the stresses this puts on the vehicle. This kit includes all pieces to put everything in sync and it strengthens the parts known to wear out with lifts.
If you watch Kai’s video in the previous post he discusses the parts included to beef things up.

An issue I see is the Toyota wording for the kit which discusses using OEM tires. Putting on larger tires can void the warranty. These lifted trucks look kind of silly to me with the OEM tires. The early takers paying the coin for this lift are not going to want to void the warranty. JMO. But then they are at a gas station filling, and a truck rolls in with bigger tires.
We are in the Pickup Truck Mania phase right now.
Servicing dealers will gladly sell you bigger tires. I'd be making sure a nationwide Toyota warranty comes with the bigger tires, like the Toyota kit.....not just a servicing Dealer's promise.

There is a big difference IMO between a Nationwide Toyota Warranty and an Independent Servicing Dealers Promise.

I guess if this thing is really the bee's knees of lifts for these trucks and it may only be couple grand give or take installed over some of the better aftermarket stuff I can see the attraction.

WTF do I know anyway. I don't do much of anything to my trucks anymore and would have something cheaper and simpler in my fleet for serious off roading rather than bash my 60k daily driver.

I was poking around before I picked up this Tundra used a few months back, even this older one I wouldn't tear up off roading. There are 100s of less than $13k older Wranglers for sale within a 100 miles of me. I'd get a stock sport 2 door to go off roading with before my Tundra.

I am convinced most lifts and giant tires are just for looks and bragging rights.

I ended up purchasing a leftover 2023 F-150 Platinum in Star White Mettalic about a month ago vs the Tundra Platinum in Wind Chill Pearl that I was also considering. What drove my decision was the discounts and low interest rates on the F-150. The Ford dealer was easy to negotiate with. The Toyota dealer was playing games and adding unnecessary fees.

What I like about the F-150 are the ergonomics, everything seems to be in the perfect spot for reaching with hand. The seats are super comfortable. 4A all wheel drive is great in the rain. 3.5L ecoboost engine; I was already familiar with the ecoboost, I had one in my 2014 problem free for 10 years. The black trim in the black appearance package gives the truck a sporty look vs chrome. Headlights turn with the steering wheel. BlueCruise hands free driving is awesome, great for cruising and traffic jams.

What I liked about the Tundra that the F-150 didn't have is the full sliding rear glass, the seats had an extra thigh support extended, heads up display, rear view mirror camera, and the screen was 2" larger.

    My truck:
    20240127_180237.jpg 20240204_112400.jpg

    The Tundra I was considering:
    SmartSelect_20240204_114728_Gallery.jpg SmartSelect_20240204_114733_Gallery.jpg

My truck does have some issues that I am working through with the service department. The parking sensors don't work properly, they are always going off sensing obstruction that are not there. Poor paint in one spot of fender panel. Debris underneath the leather center console. Exhaust tips aren't even. Rear seat lock broken. Seat clips underneath seat cover are not secured. The folding shift lever feels cheap. I haven't received a single software update and software is outdated.

I can confirm Toyota Dealers in Fl playing the fee games. I walked away from 2 of them for that. I bought this Tundra from a Ford dealer with no games.

Interesting to lurk on the F150 forums. Less of the Gen2 casting opinions on the Gen3 vibe but they have plenty of issues. Lots of issues around dealer support.
