MmTundra I am having the exact same problem. Spent a long time today trying to get the matte black window trim to fit perfectly and it just doesn’t. The chrome had those extended pieces to ensure a good fit, the matte leaves a gap between that looks terrible. How did you end up fixing this? Is there a clip about 1/2 inch wide that could connect them both and cover the gap? I am sure that the glossy black window pieces are the same quality as the chrome and would fit perfectly…I went for the matte and it seems so much cheaper. Thank you for your advice re how you fixed the issue!

it looks like the gloss black is the exact part swap for the chrome, with the connecting part for a seamless install. The matte black is crap! It doesn’t have the connecting aspect and leaves a gap in the install on my limited. Super disappointed, now thinking I may have to swap for gloss if there isn’t an inexpensive black plastic external clip I can snap over the two parts and use to hide the gap. If anyone has an idea about a clip such as this (just a generic part) I’d love to hear your thoughts thanks!

You got it! I think the gloss is the high-end chrome equivalent of this part. The matte (which I just installed) seems super cheap and doesn’t include the linking part connecting the vertical and horizontal rear door trim parts.

front door matte trim is fine I won’t replace that. If I can’t find a plastic snap/connecting part to overlay and cover the gap between the two rear door parts I’m going to have to re-buy the gloss which is going to really make me mad! Hopefully there is a cheap part I can overlay on top of these two parts and snap in/affix to connect this GD gap! Cheers all!

My gloss looks the same and doesn’t have any sort of clip to cover that

Thanks Dexter! Does your black gloss trim fit perfectly with no gap? My chrome fit perfectly and had a part designed to clip the two parts together. My matte black has no part clipping them together and fits very poorly, and I’ve taken off/put back on twice trying to get them to align. In my mind I’m visualizing a fix using a black plastic clip that will cover the gap and make them look connected. I’ve seen something like this before trying to find what they’re called.

on the SR5 model, they use a clip to cover the gap between the two parts, like in the pic below. The clip goes over the two pieces, hides the gap and gets the two pieces to fit together. If there is any OEM or aftermarket part I can buy, I’d love to do that rather than buy the gloss version

There was no clip for my gloss trim pieces. They kind of snapped together, if I remember right. No gap.

Thanks blooper! This is how my chrome pieces were too, they snap together the way they should do. The matte doesn’t have that snapping part, it looks like they need an external clip (which didn’t come with the matte parts). I may get the two gloss black pieces for the rear door. Does anyone have those part numbers on hand? Thanks!

@roboots21 looks great! Can you let me know where you purchased the paint and clear coat? I’m going to try the handles as well, hoping I don’t break any tabs

I have a local autobody supply shop near me that mixed the paint for me and had the 2K clear in stock (Amazon has it too). Otherwise AutoZone has the Duplicolor spray which is a really close match also if you can't get it mixed locally. I've also used online companies to mix paint (automotivetouchup.com) that have worked well.

I wonder if the gap with the matte pieces is why one in each side is no longer available for purchase from Toyota parts. Perhaps the trim piece is being updated to match how the gloss and chrome pieces fit together.

Fingers crossed, because I really want to replace my chrome trim with matte black.

My flat black window trim pieces should be here within the next week or two. When I receive them I'll take some pictures and post them. I hope they align properly and have that little clip to hold them together

I ordered mine before one of the pieces was discontinued/unavailable. I'm about to do a charge back with Right Toyota as they will no longer respond to my request to refund my order that they charged over a month ago, yet failed to deliver. Or move beyond "processing." Should have just ordered from Sparks.. if they say it's in stock, it ships quickly.

I ordered mine from my local Toyota dealer. They said they're only waiting on one trim piece.

Yeah, if you look up that part at any of the online parts departments, it says it's no longer for sale. You might be waiting a while.

Thanks! Can you please let me if the touch sensor works to lock and unlock? And does the manual key fit in the hole allowing you to unlock the truck manually?

We don't have a Tundra ourselves to test it.

I received the matte black window trim pieces and installed them.

That pesky black tab was broken on the first trim pieces I received.

The parts department had to order replacements, luckily the black tabs were both intact on the replacements.

Unfortunately, I broke one of the black tabs while installing. I ended epoxying the broken and unbroken tabs for a little extra strength.

I bet the tabs were broken on the trim pieces you received.

The missing pieces don't clip in they are attached to the passenger door trim.

I am in an unique predicament, I purchased matte black window trim a few months ago and removed the chrome trim.

Someone traded me their gloss black trim for my chrome trim. Should I keep the matte black or gloss black?

Also how much do you guys think I could sell the matte black or gloss black for?

MSRP gloss black is $780, and MSRP matte black is $385.
