It doesn't seem to have the manufacturer date but notes Broan Model # 688 H/633-H @ 2.0 scones...and lifetime lubricated. YMMV.

Broan model 688 can still be purchased for about $22 and would guess the inner plate swapped over with the motor in about 3 minutes...but it is now apparently 4 sones instead of 2. There seem to be .8 sone versions from Broan and Panasonic et al. But it looks like many require 2x6 construction so might not fit a retro.

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance might apply here to maintaining the current fan...unless the lubrication fix doesn't last...then beware the value trap of a 4 sone fan, and a lower sone fan may be in the future. Housing depth due to stud thickness and width due to stud placement may limit choices.

Yeah, when ours started going out in the main half bath of our house, I was looking for a quieter direct-replacement kit. NuTone and Broan are the same, and I believe my kit was a plug and play swap. The replacement was 30% quieter and moved more air, I was happy.

Didn't remove the wall housing to look at the vent since think the housing is fastened past the OD and behind the drywall. Just serviced the fan. That must be a ceiling vent? Come to think of it, these should have some type of washable filters to keep the vents clean like on HVAC returns?! Akk.

Any vids with walk throughs? I only find ones for homes up north but nothing like our homes down here in tx. My A/C unit was recently replaced so I’m sure the vents in those areas were cleaned out but I know the rest of the house wasn’t touched.

Went & played slotcars with dad & his friend. HO scale is hard to watch at speed, especially since all the cars had similar paintjobs. I think kenny said his track was 80ft long which is almost a scale mile. I'll get pics next time.
