Okay help me figure this out. 2016 Tundra Limited with TRD OR Package. 38 gallon tank, right?

Well I never run my tank below half but recently I did. It was just about empty and the on board computer said I had about 45 miles to empty (It's generally about 415-420 miles when completely full).

So I fill it up all the way to the brim and it's 26 gallons and change. How does this math work out? Explain the 12 gallon discrepancy.

It’s a test to see who have the biggest balls to go 150 more miles after it reads 0 miles left…lol

From what I understand- it's the
"SR5 Upgrade Package" that gets you the 38 gallon tank. I think it's the shape of the tank (long and low profile) that leaves so many extra gallons in the tank as to not starve the pump. I think I've been low enough with mine to have to add 30gallons, but never more than that.

See how long the tank is. The 38 gallon is close to 6 feet.

Like @Tundra234 said check the length. The 38 gallon will have 3 straps holding it in place.

The onboard computer is set up so that you have about 50 miles left in reserve while towing and getting 7.5mpg. This is about 8 gallons in my experience. That does leave about a gallon so that you are not running dry. Obviously if you are running unloaded you get a lot more than that.

Rule of thumb is that your car will be good for 50 miles after the low fuel light turns on.

So if you had 45 miles till empty and then have 8 gallons in reserve, you should be putting about 27 gallons in the tank.
Another way to look at it, is that you have a good 150 miles in range that you are giving up by filling early :)

I have run mine down to 37 gallons.

7.5 towing MPG. Toyota must figure you are towing a TT with max towing weight. I get 10 to 11 towing 5000lb bay boat. I don't tow in 6th gear.

Towing a TT does kill your mileage :) Boats tow easy because they are shaped like a bullet.

Depends on the boat. I have owned several and bass boats have much less wind resistance then a center console. That said a boat will not have has much wind resistance as a TT.
