And this is why I haven’t switched to a half ton diesel. Even getting double the mileage I get now, the annual fuel savings would be $500 and also losing the last two years of payments I’ve made at a way better interest rate than what is out there now.

Thank you all for your valuable input. This is very helpful information. I had also read sometime ago on here about fuel mileage and quality but I wasn't able to find it.
My '02 Taco is supercharged and I put 91 octane in that from only a couple of places but since my Tundra is brand new to me, I'm in the mode right now to baby it and give it only the best so fuel quality is mentally on the list right now:confused: I'm sure that'll change as time goes by. So seems like Sam's Club is a "good to go" stop for affordable fuel quality

Actually I just looked this up after reading the article @Jaypown provided and a few news articles are differentiating Costco vs. Sam's Club:goingcrazy:

Add an extra cost of the diesel engine and fuel system and a very expensive rebuild in the future (if you are planning to run it for long years). Tundra's V8 would need absolutely nothing. Maybe a fuel pump, which is cheap, but most likely would not need it.

Not sure I would put much stock into what AAA says just like I don't necessarily agree with reviews by Consumer Reports or Motor Trend.

Ok I could be wrong, but I wonder if the battery had been disconnected prior to you getting the truck. If so, the first time or two filling up will give an absurd mileage til empty number. Mine did. Something in the 500s maybe, but not 600s. After a few fill ups, it’ll settle down to what you might expect as it readjusts expectations. If this is the case, you’ll know. Mine is in the 400s now for a tank, and I have the 38 gallon tank. I couldn’t imagine you would get 600 even with the big 38gal tank. Since you posted on Xmas, I’d be curious to know how it looks now and if it’s settled at a particular range. You can test this again by disconnecting the battery long enough to reset the range counter, and go see what it says. If I’m right, it’ll be back up to a big number, and it’ll move back towards what you actually will get as it relearns. Just a thought. FWIW, I have been told all kinds of things about lower vs higher octane, I still get premium. I prob also don’t need Amsoil, but I pay way too much for that too.

I think you are correct in that it's likely due to the battery being disconnected. I had installed grille lights and also disconnected the battery for my AJT blackout install for the airbag so getting readouts like I did in the pictures seem explainable now.

Exactly what happened to mine. Replaced battery and went from a steady 407 mile range to a 632. Now I’m down to a 512 range after 2 weeks or so.

Glad to help, but I guess I was really just hoping you found a cheat code. Damn. I’ll just have to be happy with my 11.5mpg

I bought some ATs that are closer to MTs, I’ve got a HEAVY foot, I’m up north and require some preheating in the AM, and I do a ton of city driving, and in Seattle that means sitting still. All in all tho, I bought this for me, so I’m good with it. But the $150-200 fills are a bit much when prices are up from here to Cali. I remember as a kid when everyone flipped out when a gallon hit a dollar

Luckily I work remote so $40 a paycheck covers me for fuel. This truck would be gone if I went back to commuting.

God, I’m glad to have a company fuel card…. I buy just a couple tanks per year when I’m too far from my work territory and feel guilty…

I had one of those for a while. Everything in the house got premium including the weed eater. Too bad the company sucked.

lol. Been here since 1995. It’s not so bad. Money is good, benefits are good, and plenty of business in a solid fire/life safety industry.

And my gas card is only for my truck. I have to buy for the mower and wife’s car…

Only difference I notice is between summer/winter blends of fuel. As far as how much that specific difference is I can’t say as there are other variables like 10-15 min of idle/warm-up time, more 4wd usage etc. There’s also the “local lore” of “that station puts water in their fuel cut their costs blah blah”. Thankfully there are options so I don’t test it

I only run ethanol free in weedeater, tiller, chainsaw, and Polaris ATV. Boat is engineered to run regular 10% ethanol with no problems.

Same. Except the boat. Carb'ed 454's don't enjoy the ethanol.

I had a 1985 Black Max and ethanol caused the fuel lines to start flaking. I replaced all with ethanol resistant. Needles in the carbs were neoprene and I think ethanol was hard on them. I would have preferred to run ethanol free but I was running milled heads with compression in the 140 range. I had to run 93 octane and ethanol free around here is only available in 87.

Yeah our marina is 91 EtOH free only. 200 gal hurts the wallet a smidge.

Yep, just put 50 gallons in the Champ Bay. 95 gallon tank and try to fill up before the spring price increases. Should have done it 2 or 3 weeks ago. Fortunately I trailer it and don't have to pay marina prices.
