Learning French in my high school should have been done through open conversation, not hours spent memorizing whether a fish is masculin or a table is femenin. Past/present/future tense, me, I, you, they, them, us, him, her…. Tabarnak.

We spent so much time fussing the details that to this day I cannot have a casual conversation in french or remember if the fish is male of female.

Canadian football? or FUTBOL!!! GOOOOOOAAAALLL! ?

American football goal line to goal line is 100 yards, and 120 yards end line to end line (end zones are 10 yards deep each).

the FUTBOL!!! pitch is also 120, I believe.

CFL is 110 yards. The end zones are actually a decent size, too.

I lean that way myself, but I like stuff from pretty much any generation and genre from the 50’s on.

Wut? You mean the American Revolutionary War about 'taxation without representation' was actually initiated by a bunch of rich dudes that didn't want to repay the Crown for its defense of the American Colonies during the French and Indian War from 1754–1763?

My high school teacher taught us in conversation mode. She would tell us she would follow the book in some places, but not always, took her class 3 years and had a good grasp of the language. Found out later that the French I learned was more Haitian based, and much like Spanish in Mexico is not the same as Spanish in Guatemala even though they're neighbors. I did have conversations with a friend from time to time, until we lost contact, it's been slipping away ever since.
