I was taught about Lemay. In the 60's schools were much better than now IMHO. More Japanese were killed in the fire bombings than Nagasaki and Hiroshima combined...

Popular Science/Mechanics mag suggested that flying cars "might" be possible by 2000. We all were supposed the be dead by then.

Having a career in the Petro chemical industry, you needed both. Pretty common to have imperial and metric units on one control screen. Converting back and forth became pretty easy.

Civil War was strictly over slavery. FALSE. The "North" had plenty of slaves. Unemployment in the south was high due to the fact that slaves were being used by plantation owners. Northern banks financed a lot of the money used to buy slaves. At the end of the Civil War, several Native American tribes owned African slaves, and before all the slaves were freed by Lincoln, freed slaves in the north had slaves. Get real.

Not so much anymore, unless a STEM degree. Mike Rowe has a great take on this.

Wrote one to a door to door salesman Sunday. Not because of the product but the show. The guy was funny. Richard Pryor funny and just inappropriate.

So, I’ll write two checks this year, the other for my tags since they charge more if you use a card.

I had a good friend with the LAPD. Retired Sgt. Volunteered with the DARE program. So many parents and teachers thanked him for the success he had with the kids. Yep!

I've come across way too many engineers over the last 45+ years that couldn't wipe their ass without a technician with an AS deg instructing them how to do it.

Agilent 7890 and 8890. I did not have design responsibilities on these instruments but did design a "quick probe" super simple gas chromatography detector that interfaced with the 7890/8890. The FBI was very interested in this as well as customs for quick assessment of potential contraband in possession. Much longer story I won't go into here.

Here is a picture of it in the R&D lab under prototype testing.

This thread can be summed up as the education system is garbage. Anyone going to change it? Nope. The one thing citizens should be in control of and, from my view point as a parent, have the least amount of control over because it’s all government mandated crap.

Called it. Our GC is a bit larger for high volume NG. We just replaced ours for 1.4M and it still doesn't work worth a crap. Do any contract work by any chance? :anonymous:

Agreed...and I'm doing something about it.

My oldest starts a different HS next year. One that focuses on science, math, finances, and small classes. Currently her classes range from 28-36 students per class.

I'm sure you're friend was a great dude but that proves nothing. There have been kids that are now adults that have said DARE actually peaked their curiosity enough to make them try drugs.
Numerous studies done on it too.

I retired in early January, 2022 and walked away from the realm. Lots of reasons for this, not going into detail here. Any knowledge I have in this arena would likely be proprietary to Agilent, not willing to share this. This is only one of the many instruments I designed, dozens of products from 2008 until 2022 at Agilent; many, many more previous with HP and several other hi-tech companies.

Can confirm. I was a controller for a management company and would cut about 175 checks a week to vendors, for 12 of our companies.

I don't think he was making a statement. It was in line with the title of the thread.
