Hello! In the past I have had vehicles with automatic start but it was not done on an app. While it is cool that it is an app I do not want to pay reoccurring monthly fees to be able to remote start my truck. New vehicles come with the 12 months of free automatic start via the app but then you have to pay 15 dollars per month.

what are others doing or planning on doing to have automatic start but not pay per month?

Why not use the remote? Lock, Lock, Hold Lock for a few seconds.

Welcome from Indiana. Compustar makes a good system you can have installed at Best Buy for about $300. Then you can get Drone Mobile app for $48 a year. Toyota charges 15 a month or $180 a year. All that to say if you keep your truck for more than two years it is a break even then it’s only $48 a year from that point on. I have owned Compustar and Drone Mobile and they work flawlessly.

I tried 3x on lock (hold on 3) and it started. Kind of bogus that they make you pay for that in order to have the key fob trick.

PWPBLUE- That is an interesting read and great article, thanks for posting it!

According to that article, service connect and safety connect include this feature but once those expire then you have to pay for them. My app says active, “Up to 10 years” for both of these. I wonder if that is still why Perry 1060 still has the key fob triple lock remote start?

    @Qr71 your very welcome!
Think it makes it more understandable vs he said she said mine works he's doesn't back and forth.
The key fob is weak in range by design so I appreciate the phone app and I installed a 12volt solution remote start in my SO 2017 rav4 and she loves having the phone app too. 12vs is alot cheaper subscription vs Tundras but it is what it is.

I hope toyotas are not as vulnerable!!

Interesting. I do not have an active subscription and key fob remote start still works. Would this “programming change” be part of the infotainment head unit updates? I haven’t connected to WiFi and checked for an update in quite some time.

I never activated any of the subscription services, even for the free trial. My FOB remote start works fine. My truck's build date was 6/23.

Mine still starts without the subscription, and I did not renew after the trial (almost a year ago).

I added my truck into Toyota connected services last week and now the remote start doesn’t work. (2021 TRD Pro).
    Anyone else experienced this?
    What’s the fix?

I'm not sure, but we have the same year truck. It came with a "one year free trial" of connected services. The day that ended the remote start didn't work anymore. In my case I would need to pay the subscription to get it to work, I think. I never figured signing up would end the remote start function. If I'm right, and you do need to have a paid subscription to connected services for the remote start to work - I AM PISSED. Next they will want you to rent the ECM in your truck, full on BS. Come on Toyota, that's not good enough.

I'm not willing to pay for anything remote start when you open door it shuts off. Truck recognizes the remote when you get close to truck. Why can they not let it run and when door is opened if it does not recognize remote in few seconds then it shuts off.

I let my subscription expire 2 years ago and just use my fob. It works great, and it doesn’t cost me anything.

I read somewhere that there might be a software update coming that will make it work this way. I can't find it now though, but I am still holding out hope. Not sure why Toyota hasn't figured out how to safely to keep the car running when you unlock the doors.
