Flood depth clearance stock Tundra

Hi everyone!

We've been getting some rain where I live in Mexico and some roads get flooded real fast. I'm driving a 2024 Tundra Limited iForceMax 4x4 without any mods.

What's the max water depth I can drive it through? Without drowning the engine of course.

 

??? why would you attempt to drive flooded roads?

Even if the water is only 4 inches deep, that does not mean the earth has not been washed out under the asphalt.

If you are driving on roads with enough water to wonder about the trucks fording ability then you should not be driving on that road.

 

On a stock truck, Anything above the center of your hubs is asking for trouble. Can’t imagine a hybrid truck fairing too well fording water.

 

Well... because I want to get back home. Sometimes some streets get flooded more than a foot of water. Not fast flowing water though. And that got me thinking on how much water can I really drive through.

Seems like a good rule of thumb.

 

Fording water is always a little risky. But telling you to stay home the entire rainy season is just ridiculous. Just don’t get water into the intake. I’m guessing it’s still in the passenger wheel well on the 3rd gen. If you haven’t raised your breather on your rear axle, do that asap.

Personally the absolute max depth I would dip my truck in is the top of the tires. And I’ve done that a few times. But I have a 2.5 gen and it’s been proven to ford that depth ok. If you’re anywhere near the intake, drive really really slow. I probably wouldn’t go above the bottom of the cab if I had a hybrid.

 

Interesting, I'll look into relocating the breather on the rear axle just to be on the safe side.

 

It’s like 700 mm/27.5” advertised on many Toyota offroaders. That doesn’t seem very deep but it looks deep in a lot of videos.

What’s the Mex Edition like?

 

Wow this are really informative. Just under the height of the tires. Similar to what joonbug said. Nice videos.

I have no idea the technicalities but at the dealer they said Toyota makes a market specific model and because of that I couldn’t service it in the USA. It has a different model number.
They told me it’s because of the road conditions in most of México lol. And availability of quality of vehicle fluids, even gas.

My guess is that Mexican edition is a bit more rugged in that sense. Also, we don’t have the online service you guys have. Even if the same model costs more in Mexico.

I’ll look for the actual model number. I remember I found it when I was looking for the lift kit. I’ll post it later.

you want to see some fording wins/fails go do a lookup of "Rufford Ford"

saw a win where the person did it in a car, but they did it correctly, got a nice bow wave in front of the car and had no issue crossing deep water.

 

that dont count since the air intake is NOT in the front. was an old video where it was a normal front engine vehicle and they had a nice bow way to keep the water from being sucked up into the air intake. was really impressed.

 

well most ultra sport cars have engines in the back so the side openings are actually air intakes.

the front is just a frunk to hold a purse or 1-2 bags of groceries

but i would be more worried about the diff breather tube sucking in water

if i remember correctly newer tacoma's they relocated the front breather tube into the engine bay, but still neglected the rear. not sure on the tundra.

seen some mods on taco's where they relocated the breather tube next to the gas tank filler door.
