got a 02 tundra w/4.7. Never a break down w/ 288k miles. sat out back for a year and battery died. new battery and was running but rough idle. went to clean intake and tried to spray with the engine running. took off the aftermarket filter tube at engine and it died and won't start, only cranks. no codes thrown. took negative off and on to reset. hoses fine. won't start. any ideas?

What specifically did you use to clean the TB?

Is the check engine light lit, and if so, what are the codes?

Rodents love these trucks btw. Especially like nesting on top of the tank and chewing up the wires. And getting under the intake manifold and going to town building nests, tearing up knock sensor and starter wiring, etc.

Rough idle after having it off-ECU is pretty normal. ECU will reset when no power is present, and needs to re-learn how to run after, which often lends to rough idle, unusual responses.

I didnt end up spraying anything. I have in the past when changing batteries.

check engine light does go on, but when i ran a code test, 0 codes appeared. it started just fine many times as i did service work on it. drove it around many times testing the brakes, shocks etc. did the new battery last and the rough idle started, just like usual, but remembered the cleaning tip to speed up the relearning process. i believe i caused the problem by trying to clean it while running. thats when things went south.

How old was the gas in the tank?

Do you have any way to test fuel pressure at the rail?

Have you tested for power at the one leg of the fuel relay?

Is the crank position sensor harness intact?

Did you, by chance, unplug either temp sensor (there are two) nestled on the passenger side of the throttle body? (one is green plastic, one is grey or black)

I guess another question is: Does it fire with ether/starter fluid? If it does, we know fuel delivery is probably your problem.

Gas was about 16 months with half a tank. ran fine, except idle, 10+ times for over an hour total.

    Not now, hopefully this weekend.

    No.

    Yes

I've checked every connection I could see.

Maybe fill up with premium or add some additive to that old gas? Old ethanol fuel goes to sheet in no time.

I'd check those 5 wires that plug into the mass air sensor. Look close to make sure non are broken.

The 4.7 engine will die if you remove the air tube at the Throttlebody when it’s running and will not turn on if its disconnect in my experience
