Do let me know what you think when you eventually get to them. Purely because I'm not sure if I love it more than most people would. You seem to be more well read than I am, so you may have a very different opinion.

I read more than the average person, but that's only because the average person doesn't read. You listed off quite the variety of stuff earlier. Pretty sure you read more than I do. I only read for entertainment/escapism, so lots of the classics or "must reads" don't appeal. I also go in cycles. I'll not read for months, or even years, and then I'll binge like crazy. Varies a lot.

 

I don't read as much for recreation anymore, partly because I read and write all day for work. Incoming and outgoing emails, whitepapers, training, presentations... Most days are 9 or more hours of staring at a screen, and by the time I get done I just want to eat, turn my brain off, watch an episode of not-reality TV, and hit the sack. Hard to read when I'm walking, so audiobooks it is. I'm all in on Sowell or Seneca, but some off-the-wall fiction hits better when I need to not think about anything serious.

 

I should read Sowell, but I struggle so hard with non-fiction. I do watch some of the vids on the yootoob and get some of the 1000 foot view stuff he touches on. Absolutely respect him and his tenacity in digging through stuff and researching to find all the aspects to an issue he can. He is intellectually intimidating.

 

Yes, intimidating is a good word. His style is less dry than some other economist-political-pundit writers - Walter Williams or Milton Friedman, and he's not pompous like Friedman. It's good to have background like Adam Smith, or contra-material like Marx and Engels; but that stuff is hard to get through without getting drowsy. Man, I'm reaching way back - - haven't read any of this stuff for years... Sowell's "Intellectuals And Society" is a good read.

 

I don't think I'd bother with the counter narrative stuff, because Sowell himself comes from that background. He was a solid marxist in his youth, and he touches on the principles and teachings enough to clarify points he is making. At least in videos/interviews. I can't speak toward his writings.

He used to have a series of videos on the life of Marx on his org website, but I don't see them there now. It was at least a couple of years ago I watched/listened to those, but the gist was basically that Marx was a spoiled brat who leached off his parents until the well ran dry, and then flung blame at the world for not taking care of him. You know, like today's socialists. I think I see the shadow of a ban hammer, so what do you think about those new Tundras?...

Honestly, I don't mind the new Tundra, except for the price. If I were to get t-boned on my way home today and have to replace my Tacoma I'd try like hell to get another one, but if that weren't an option I'd have to choose between the Tundra and a 4Runner. Either one would have to be a step down in trim because I wouldn't be taking on more debt that I have to get it, so that would suck. I think most of the kinks are worked out of the Tundra, but I still hate the though of an anemic undersized engine being twin turbo-ed to get it to the required performance mark of drivability. I am a firm believer that turbos and superchargers should only be added ot engines that were already adequate for the vehicle's intended use.

 

I love a turbo… my Ecoboost was a monster, especially when towing. I still cannot get over the looks of the new Tundra, but would probably get one if I needed a new truck. Want the hybrid, but not sure it is worth giving up the storage.

 

Ah, I have no interest in the hybrid. The looks don't bother me if you change up the front just a touch. I'd probably do an SR5 with the SX package.

 

Sequoia front end swap or a decent off-road bumper unfuglifies the front end by a long shot.

If I needed a new truck today, it would probably be a gas one ton.

 

For me its a $50K max price, has to be brand new and can't be a GM product. Don't think I could pull off a 1 ton, and I don't actually need one that big. Taco suits my needs perfectly. Hell, as little as I have been able to actually get off the roads and go camping I could probably do a Ridgeline. LOL

With a family of 5 and a travel trailer, I really should get into a truck with more payload at some point.

 

I am right at max capacity too. Keep holding out that Toyota will make a HD version of the Tundra. A beefed up frame and suspension capable of another 700-1,000lbs of cargo capacity and geared lower for towing would be perfect.

$80k to get what I want but yeah, I get your meaning. That was a $60k truck a couple years ago.

 

After seeing my insurance rates increase recently, new truck costs are only one component of an overall affordability issue.

 

If I ever have a 'next Tundra', it'll have to be the next gen. I have to be a hater on the 3rd-gen looks. My son got a 22 Trail Boss. I know it's a Government Motors product, and probably as reliable as having a crack whore for a wife - and no, I wouldn't own one; but it's good looking and well appointed. Don't ban me bro.
