Put a deposit on a 2024 Tacoma Off-Road and the model I reserved was right at 50k and new Tacomas are pretty much all MSRP. After looking a some of the Tundra incentives and discounts I can get a 2024 Tundra Off-Road for not much more. The only caveat is that I want the larger screen and premium audio which doesn't seem to be all that common in the ones I'm finding locally. So can anyone chime in on how good or bad the smaller screen and base audio system is in the Tundra?

The Tundra much more powerful than the Tacoma and isn't much worse on gas mileage from base on the info released.

    Thanks

Screen is small potatoes. I do like my 14” in my platinum though.

if you can’t drive big trucks then get the Tacoma. I switched to the Tundra to get notice by other drivers. People are crazy and distracted. Or if you’re a porky fella get the Tundra. Wanna go solo camping get the Tacoma. Family camping get the Tundra.

    10k difference isn’t a lot when you’re at 50k already.

if you value seat space/comfort cant beat a tundra (we came from 2016 tacoma d-cab)

only reason we would go back down is the wife is getting to the tipping point of parking outside or in the garage (tundra doesnt fit, but the tacoma does). as she starts getting older, she is getting to the point where cleaning snow before going to work is a major pita for her after knee surgery.

LOl I hear you on being notice by inattentive drives. I have a lifted 2009 Tacoma but drive a 2019 Mini Cooper to and from work since the Tacoma gets 13 mpg. Getting the Mini was a mistake since the gas savings isn't worth getting crushed by another car.

I dont actually “need” a full size truck. When I was shopping I sat in a Tacoma and the seating was horrible, and it was cramped (and I was driving a Nissan frontier at the time so no stranger to small trucks).

that was the deciding factor that I couldn’t get comfortable. Supposedly they’ve addressed the seating but I just went with a full size tundra.

glad I did as I appreaciate the extra room, and height. And the turning radius is a dream. The Nissan frontier has the worst turning radius of any manufactured truck on the planet.

The Tacoma is just too small. It does not seat people comfortably in the back seat. If you have kids or plan on using the back seat, get a tundra. I just traded in my 17 Tacoma for a 24 tundra because of this. Best decision ever.

Stay away from first year models , yes even Toyota

the tundra is all smoothed out now for the most part , plus 50k+ for a mid size? No thanks

Doesnt look any roomier than my former 3rd gen Tacoma. On a paper though, theyve added additional 1.1 inches which is still not nearly enough, though understandably so, it isnt a full size.

yeah interior wise the new tacoma is bigger than the previous gen (barely bigger but still cramped) but its nothing compared to going from a 2016 tacoma double cab to 2018 tundra crew cab.

I was just poking that he is stating it's terrible, but likely hasn't been in one. I realize it's a midsize and smaller by a large amount, especially compared to a crewmax. I downsized to a Tacoma last year from a 2019 Crewmax, and the contrast is stark regarding interior room in every dimension. I made the move because I could count on one hand the number of times I had a passenger in the back seat after having the Tundra for 3 years. If the OP is in a similar position the smaller size of the Tacoma makes daily driving duties, especially in cities/towns, much easier. I would only go with a full size truck if I needed the capability, but a midsize covers that for me now.

We're looking at getting our first truck now. We thought we'd go with a Taco for a few years and then trade up to the Tundra. In pricing out the 24's of both, the Tundra was only going to be about $5-7K more. Also, with the delays in the Tacos (especially the hybrid), and being the first year of the gen, we're likely going with a Tundra Hybrid Limited. There's a few close to what we want in our area.

We're hopefully buying it this Saturday if we can work out a good deal with one of the dealerships around us!

That seat suspension looks neat but good Lord it takes up half the leg room

Hope it serves you well! And I hope you've read up on what it can and cannot do well. So many first time truck buyer's get a 1/2 ton when they need a bigger truck.

Exactly what i was thinking, especially knowing its cramped back there as is.
I suspect though, the buying demographic will be single bro-chads that like to hard park at their local mall :anonymous:

if we looked into getting the new tacoma we would compare the limted double cab to our platinum crew cab.

another big point, if you get the limited tacoma you get full time 4wd (aka 4runner limited 4wd system i have in my 2014 4runner)

2024 Tacoma Limited Double Cab 5ft Bed Interior Dimensions (in.)

    Leg room (in.) (front/rear)
    41.8/33.7

    Shoulder room (in.) (front/rear)
    58.3/57.8

    Hip room (in.) (front/rear)
    56.8/56.3

Head room (in.) (front/rear) with moonroof
    38.0/38.4

2023 Tundra Platinum Crew Cab 5.5ft Bed Interior dimensions, front/rear (in.)
    Leg room
    41.2 / 41.6

    Shoulder room
    65.0 / 62.4

    Hip room
    62.6 / 60.5

    Head room with moonroof
    39.3 / 36.9

Why do I feel attacked? :anonymous:

(I wouldn't buy the new Pro and wouldn't spec those seats if it can be had on a "lesser" trim.

as you can see the shoulder/hip room is 6in more in the tundra vs the tacoma. let that sink in, 1/2 a foot for the front passengers

if you are a typical asian weight/build, then this is a mute point for the tacoma, and too much room in a tundra :)

Uh, yeah. Two very different size vehicles in the width department. I'm fat and have broad shoulders, and I have a buddy that is broad shouldered and 6'3" tall and the width in the '23 Taco isn't bad. Unless you are freakishly tall ( @NWPirate ) or jumbo size and bitching that airlines charge you for the second seat you spill into, I think you're ok on those two. Even the leg room is ok for most up front. The rear... not friendly to any but small children, but doable.

    Moot, not mute. :p:boink:

Also, not technically a correct usage. Moot means that there are so many variables that it is endlessly arguable, not that it's not an issue.

I had a 2019 Tacoma and it shifted horribly. I think at times it had no idea what gear to be in.

How many miles did you get on it? That usually subsides with more miles as the transmission learns. Mine was irritating to start, but now it very rarely/if ever does anything like that.
