Nothing I hate worse is, "throw it out my ass" statements based upon absolutely zero science or facts to back it up. IE: "pull it out my ass" junk science.

Early pipes to modern day automobile straight pipes :

#1. Archaeologists discovered copper water pipes in the palace ruins of the Indus River Valley in India. (4,000 to 3,000 B.C.) No auto mobiles yet. Only used to move water and caca. (pretty sure taught by the 5th grade maybe 6th). (sarc) Coincidence: similar to "modern day" BAM pipes/ straight pipe exhausts for example. (which are very highly regarded "high tech" exhaust solutions and rightly so for their application.)

    upload_2015-8-9_19-33-8.jpg

#2. Fast forward to modern day pipe science:

    modern day exhaust pipe>>[IMG]
Kind of looks the same as the 6000 year old pipes. Except made of steel. Doesn't leak as bad. ( keeping up with technology) Modern pipe can now move exhaust fumes too besides water and caca.

"Current state of the art" "keeping up with the times" resonator technology:

    #3. WIKI: Helmholtz resonance
is the phenomenon of air resonance in a cavity, such as when one blows across the top of an empty bottle. The name comes from a device created in the 1850s by Hermann von Helmholtz, the "Helmholtz resonator", which he, the author of the classic study of acoustic science, used to identify the various frequencies or musical pitches present in music and other complex sounds.[1]

#4. If my math is correct, this high tech resonator technology used in today's "state of the art " straight pipe/muffler setups (which is good physics by the way) is 165 years old. Current High Tech? "Keeping up with the times"?

Or is this old high tech? (I could be confused, depends on what you think high tech is, for example: a mouse trap, unchanged for a hundred years ( is it still high tech since no one has made a better mouse trap yet?) or landing a space vehicle on a comet moving 70,0000mph and 150 million miles away by wireless communication?)

Low tech muffler mfring?: about_us_banner_new.jpg Big on state of the art R&D

Big on state of the art R&D: http://www.bankspower.com/products/show/291/84

Bottom line..... FACTS trump "truth" and "whatever money you want to put up" to "prove" your 2 cents. Think about it.

NOTE: Still waiting for empirical proof, anything, what the "Smart start/stop" recall actually fixes.??????????????????chime in CRICKETS! (Preferred response should be from a degreed expert in the field, similar to the NASA scientists :alien: and US Gov safety engineers who could not figure it out.

    Follow up:
Maybe bring in the X files folks :spy:, G-men :spy:, Area 51 spooks :spy:, black unmarked helicopters and Lincoln Navigators :spy:, or the "Lone Gunmen" :spy:, or the "Fringe" psycho doc  to straighten out the Smart /Stop Recall "fix" conundrum ?:cookiemonster:) Debates are not one sided and are not decided who "won" by proclamation of one of the participants. (note: I was not debating, just providing some scientific clarity which was severely lacking at the time)

And the reason for the Smart/Stop correction ?
Stuck floor mat under the gas pedal . Go figure that it was a stupid act, to cause more nanny state controls .
    Disclaimer :
I am only a wood door finisher

And $$$$millions of millions was spent to determine "stuck floor mat under the gas pedal" was the main problem. Not a "ghost in the machine". The other cause for unintended acceleration accidents came down to the "can't fix stupid", and the " I don't know how to to put my car into neutral and pull over and turn engine off" syndrome. New common core math calculation: No empirical proof of unintended acceleration caused by "outside interference" whatsoever= Toyota pays 1.7 something $ billion. Makes sense to me.
Pretty sure "climate change" may come into play soon enough. Current catch all for all the world's ills.

Note: Nothing wrong being "just" a wood door finisher. Not that easy at all. There is a science to it. Do you work on all type of doors, wood, finishes? There is an art to it.

I do all types of wood doors. Typically I am called in to refinish large entries on nice homes. We take on the jobs few can handle, or care to. anywhere from simple entry doors to elaborate 20 ft entries with all kinds of fancy hardware and artistic glass. We may get contracted to completely change the color, or look of the entry. Which means we tent the interior , So we can isolate just the front entry, from the rest of the house. We also do entire home refinishes . The last large project, was to refinish every finished piece of wood, in an 8000 square foot home. 68 doors and frames, about 80 windows and 165 cabinet doors and drawers and of course all the wood associated with this. He also had us do his custom fireplace mantle. He was only a part time resident, so we had full access to the home for about a year. We would use that work for rain day work, since we could do much of it inside. Here is our website in case you are curious http://www.desertrosedoor.com/

You have something pretty good going on. Desert Rose Door web site very good. Most serious home owners realize how important a nice front door is. It's really the first thing guests see up close and it sets the tone for the rest of the house. ("Damn. Nice freakin door. Wonder what's behind it" sort of thing). I was able to go to a few super nice lodges and private homes on Kenai Peninsula up in AK to drop off some custom log furniture my friend made. Super nice door work on most of them. Easily thousands of $ spent just on the entry way. There is good money to be made in "door" finishing for sure.
This is my friend Ken's website. A small lodge that he and his brother Scott built just north of Anchor Point, AK. Everything done by them including room furniture and fixtures :http://bearessentialslodging.com/

    index.1.jpg

This is Bill Drakes lodge. Crazy nuts. Right on the Kenai River. Went there several times to install, refinish custom furniture made by Ken. One time it was to fix a giant 400lb dining table that Ken made that warped slightly. Flipped it over and put several hundred lbs of sand bags for about a month to de-warp it and then went back and refinished everything. The top of the table took up 3 gallons of clear coat alone. That was fun spreading that out over and over and over. Spent most of my weekends helping Ken out while I was there. Super great experience. May go back and help Ken after I retire to make a few under the table $$. I have a lot of pics I took of the inside. We were there in the off season so I was able to really check the place out. Got to stay there free. Not exactly a cheap place during the peak salmon season. You even have a private chef. The good life.
    http://drakesonthekenai.com/

The table, chairs, and benches before Ken finished them the first time. It's actually much bigger than it looks in the pic. Will seat 12 people. Although a little cozy. Made from local spruce. Bill needs to hire you to update is doors. Everything else is up to snuff:

(There were some accusations that some of the unintended accelerations were caused by "some" defect with the "fly by wire" pedal and associated circuitry which could be affected by outside interference and was proven to be unfounded by the G men and NASA engineers, and Toyota was absolved of any responsibility for THAT particular non issue, yet Toyota agreed to do "something" to "remedy" that "problem" which could not be verified to even exist as part of the settlement with the other issues that Toyota was proven to be negligent. Hence, the smart start/stop recall. Makes sense to me. Not):cookiemonster:

Well Matluth, we all know about the famous smart stop thread, and the entertainment it brought to the forum. I believe I started it, hahaha. I was told by 2 Toyota techs.....no need. When I made an appointment for other reason, the service manager said ..you have a recall. To speed this up, she said it could be a factor when I go to sell it, so I had it done. No problems or nannies, but I don't power brake, which I think was part of the problem. Driver error imop

You need to put AK on your bucket list. My friend Ken has been up there now for 19 yrs. Came up from Oregon. Does most of his woodworking business in the winter and early spring. Spends most of the summer working with cement. Big money in that. Still will do special wood working projects after putting in a 14 hr shift. The guy is an energizer. The summer before I came back I helped him build a big ass sign for Gwin's Lodge in Cooper's Landing on the Kenai. Think he got $6K. Not exactly furniture. heh heh. Ken had already made all the lodge's tables and bar stools/chairs and then volunteered me to help with the sign. http://www.gwinslodge.com/

    The Sign

1ac7be_85df08f7113c0ada6057ef6d308ab2c4.jpg_srb_p_1177_883_75_22_0.50_1.20_0.00_jpg_srb.jpg The king salmon (6 ft long) was done with a chain saw by a friend of Ken's. Ken's daughter did all routing work. Near the top right "up right" log near the connecting steel rod, there is still some of my blood from my right index finger. Don't ask. Wasn't pretty. Grinder involved. The lodge owner is named Keith not Gwin. All you have to do is cross the highway and you are in the Kenai River. Literally. One of the best spots to fish for salmon in AK. Across the river is the 5 star Kenai Princess Lodge. Ken's largest contract so far. Built all the tables, chairs, benches, etc.

I also helped with chairs and furniture for Rosco's Pizza in Ninilchik. Rosco and wife Carol are very cool folks. Rosco use to be executive chef at the 5 star Denali Princess Lodge. Best pizza I have ever, ever, ever had. Good enough reason to go back. Just for the pizza. http://roscospizzaalaska.com/gallery.htm

Carol_slices.jpg Rosco's wife Carol. The tables and chairs were done by Ken. I helped with the finishing. We made 3 furniture drop offs over the winter prior to them opening up for business. Got to know them well. Ken was smart. Asked for $300 of what was owed in pizza. Another reason why I volunteered to help Ken. Every trip to Kenai we stopped for pizza.

I don't even know it's there. I does lower rpms if you try to do push both pedals at the same time above 35 I think. Not having a recall done is not that big of a deal apparently. The last four vehicles that I had purchased had some type of open recall. None were major. I would just ask the dealer each time to do the fix for each recall. I already knew the bogus smart/stop "fix" recall hadn't been done when I checked the VIN # before I bought my Tundra. I feel sooooo much safer now that I am protected from ??????? :alien: (alien UFO signals possibly interfering with acceleration circuitry)
