Hey everyone I’m starting a poll to see if there is any interest for HPS to develop a silicone intake tube. There use to be a company that produced them which is discontinued. I contacted HPS and they responded back. See screen shots. Pictured is reference to a 4runner silicone intake tube for example.

    Like and comment for interest.

    Thanks.

I mean, it's pretty well established that there's not a hell of a lot that can be done to these engines for bolt on HP/torque gains other than long tube headers. To what end is this to be developed? Noise? Or, are there proven gains?

I mean, in theory, anything you can do to smooth out and reduce turbulence of airflow should increase performance in some way/shape/form. Anything you can do to reduce restriction of air should also.

Whether it's worth it is another story.

Anything can help to get the most out of these engines. I found some dyno graph that they used for a full air intake for a GX470 non-vvti. Gains of 12lbs of torque at 3100 rpm. At the end of the day it’s all smiles per gallon right?

I had one one of these on my 80 series, however, I had to remove it when it was deemed "non -CARB compliant" at a smog check (CA problems).

I went back to the OEM air intake tube. I noticed no difference in performance, mpg, anything. YMMV.

That's neat that HPS put out a dyno graph showing gains on their dyno, with their equipment. Show me an independent dyno with no skin in the game. That will get my attention if I see gains there. Otherwise, neat trick.

At those levels, would 12tq be within the margin of error, or potentially reachable via other external factors which could’ve been tweaked between runs, or even the result of cold engine vs. warm engine, or even fuel choice?
