    Hey guys

Looking at buying this 1GT and this is what the undercarriage looks like. Is it too much rust? Truck spent time in NY and down south before making its way west. what do you think..

Would be too much for me. They are clearly painting over problem areas.

Frame has been painted or coated very recently to mask the extent of the rust damage. Walk away, and I don't recommend looking at other vehicles from that dealer. I'm sure they know what they're doing.

Yeah, the baling wire holding the gas tank up is highly suspicious too. Who knows what else is butchered up. Walk away.

That is a decent price if 4WD and under 175k miles. But I'd rather drop $3-5k more for one that won't be a bitch to work on every time you need to turn a bolt, and won't ultimately need some frame parts replaced, gusseted, or patched. You'll be paying that $3-5k in the long run on maintenance hours, welding, etc. if you were to buy this truck pictured.

Yikes! Run away; those prices are for rust free virgin trucks.

Wow looks like that truck never got the TSB for the free frame replacement. The top one either. Toyota ate millions with that recall averaging about 15k per truck. Part of that TSB was also new gas tank strap kit, due to them falling out. Bailing wire isnt load rated for a full tank.

That's a bit too much rust for me, and they obviously spray painted over the rust without addressing it first. It will continue to get worse.

Yup that truck has all the signs of a cheap and cheerful cover-up job. Mine had the frame TSB so it's frame and undercarriage is rust free. Wait a week I'm putting my 2 owner 4x4 up soon. Just finishing up some service work because I want it perfect when it goes to new home. I've had her for 22 years never missed a beat.

That's a cover up for sure, as others have stated. You can see bubbling and flaking in certain areas and others that look suspicious for delaminating. I got burned buying a wrangler - the previous owner spray foamed holes in the frame, sanded smooth and painted and fluid filmed the undercarriage. My wife REALLY wanted it and she bought it despite my reservations. I got to working on it and found frame holes, delamination and all kinds of fun stuff under there. I took a small hammer and started tapping the frame and metal was flying in all directions.......I suspect the same for this truck.

baling wire is factory man. *sarcasm*

I've seen worse being driven everyday but I live where there is road salt, which is why mine is only driven in dry sunny days.
