The majority of Californians indirectly voted for that by virtue of not recalling Newsom. No surprises to them what he does. There was a choice. Hence, the exodus, which spreads the cancer. The pendulum is going to swing back hard soon enough. Ha!

CA residents didn't vote on it either. Defending Newsom is a bold move, let's see if it pays off..

Im not defending anyone. They are making their bed. I will sit back and laugh as well when it backfires on them.

Whatever this forum told me to do
we can take this path for a few more steps.

CA is a mere stepping stone.

The EPA has placed MPG mandates on ALL auto mfg's.

    why?

    and I'm not being obtuse.

take the question at it's base.

or, when we lower equip by a deep water rig, why does the rig operator have to hire turtle watchers? serious.

The recent unrealistic EPA MPG mandates can be changed and most likely will be soon enough. That pendulum thing.

I prefer to think of CA as the guinea pig.
The EPA has done the MPG mandates because of clean air. Remember the smog in LA in the 70's and 80's? The air is cleaner now...IDK if we are robbing Peter to pay Paul with battery tech once a EV is DOA. I fully think they are paining themselves into a corner with their grid though.

The recent MPG mandates have little to nothing to do with clean air. It was to force car manufacturers to move away from ICE by mandating unrealistic/ unreasonable requirements.

guinea pig is a better comparison.

    clean air.

Cleaning the air & MPG are not intertwined. we can do one without the other.

clean air is simple scrubbing tech. Catalytic converters solved all that.

now we are strangling the auto mfr's for nefarious/unproven reasons.

I will refrain from climate change malarky and keep it civilized by staying with the EV revolution discussion.

California has such a large portion of the auto market that no manufacturer is willing to lose them. So, by proxy, CA sets emissions standards for all the other states without those states getting to have a say. THAT is why somebody in Texas, or anywhere else, should care.

and the recent upcoming ban of diesel semi's, in CA, is quite worrisome. think of the interstate ramifications from inbound goods to west coast ports.

The article is outlining the simple numbers on registrations based on drive type. Diesel passenger cars are still widely available in Europe and still hold a good market share overall. I think one reason EVs are becoming more popular there is because the drive distances in Europe are much shorter. In the range of an EV you can drive across two countries before charging.

My point was the compliant mentality that bows to the panic mongering.

Which the cited article had nothing to do with. Not a single word about compliance, regulation, or panic… Just simple numbers stated on what was registered.

I didn't say the article did. I am making the implication that those sales are driven by that mentality.

Are they serious???? Who in their right mind would do something like that??? I am curious as to how they expect to get ANYTHING and EVERYTHING brought in, over, under, and taken to ANYWHERE in that state!!?? The people seriously need to consider who is running the show there!

How do the expect to have anything? And I mean ANYTHING?!

Side note> I wonder how well EV's are selling right now, in January, in Anchorage? I wonder how many CP and BP corporate executives are driving around Anchorage in an EV? I should go find out....this Spring. Ha

One of the biggest issues at hand is our infrastructure. We’ve developed a system that makes every single American reliant on their vehicle.

I spent 2 weeks in Europe back in September. The public transport was amazing. You can get across entire cities, and even countries without stepping foot into an automobile. Many Europeans think the way they do because they don’t even need to own a vehicle. If I lived in Paris, I wouldn’t own a car. It wouldn’t make sense.

For us Mericans’, vehicles are a way of life. We enjoy driving. We take pride in our cars. It’s going to be damn hard to get 350 million people to change how we’ve been going about for the last 100 years with the automobile.

Just like anything in life, it’s about balance. And many people don’t have it. They drive their gas guzzling truck back and forth to work, the gym, runs simple errand and they’re the only one in the truck. This is why I have an efficient vehicle for the daily, the truck for when I NEED the truck. I think if people had some sort of efficient vehicle (ICE, EV, Hybrid) for taking care of 75% of the commuting, we could solve a lot of these issues.

Toyota released some numbers showing the efficiency of their hybrids vs ICE and EV’s. They proved that hybrids would solve all of these issues you gents were talking about above. But hybrids are lame and looked down upon here in Merica’. It’s a shame, because many hybrids are great vehicles and most people wouldn’t even know the difference from their current vehicle.

    Ok…I’ll stop ranting

It's about freedom. If I only want my truck, nobody else should be able to compel me to buy anything else or bar me from having it just because I'm "the only one in it" or any other excuse they come up with.

The older non diesel ships have to switch to “clean” bunker fuel when they get to American waters

once out in the ocean they can switch back to regular bunker fuel

I imagine similar rules apply to the diesel ships

    it’s a big joke

Agreed, the European train system is amazing. Great coverage, efficient, comfortable, enjoyable, and affordable. Two weeks ago I took the train from London to Brussels in 2 hours and enjoyed a great beer and lunch along the way.
