I went to the site and read about this. How does it differ from the ruger 10:22? I have built several of those, both the standard and the breakdown. Very possibly the best survival gun you could have if you were only allowed one

this build includes 3 hidden compartments. One has 50 rounds of ammunition, one contains some survival stuff and the other contains cleaning gear for the gun, including patches and oil.
I keep it by the front door for squirrels and chipmunks in the garden.

Without the can or the 30rd magazine but with the hidden compartments full, it’s right at 6lb

Looks like they do a customized barrel mounting that like the savage bolt rifles - the barrel threads into the receiver and has a backing nut to lock it at the proper “headspace”

I’m gonna have to guess that they did a little redesign to avoid patent infringement issues. It’s not an improvement in my opinion. The threads could get screwed up. Rugers original method (installed now in over 7 million guns) has no record of failure.

I absolutely wasn’t saying that it is a poor design! I would love one (or two)!

There’s many copies of the Ruger design that are licensed - from Brownell’s to TC. These guys use the Ruger bolt (or a more precisely machined version) and the Ruger factory BX trigger pack.

While the Ruger design for barrel retention isn’t a failure point, some argue that it is a potential for accuracy degradation due to the non-symmetrical tension on the barrel. Will that affect 99.99% of shooters? No. But everyone’s looking to reinvent the mousetrap. And in many ways this may also reduce machining costs by eliminating the need for a mill to cut the dovetail after the barrel is turned on the lathe. I won’t call it an improvement, only a redesign of the barrel mount.

The savage locknut design is also a proven design, and is finding its way into many other places. The “remage” barrels for the Remington 700 are just one example - now a home smith with a simple crowfoot wrench and set of headspace go/no-go gauges can rebarrel a Remington action when before it took a gunsmith with a lathe and other tools. Even Ruger used a variation on the theme in their own precision rifle line. It seems about 10-15 years ago there was someone making a “takedown” 10/22 clone that used a similar design.

I would like to see and play with one of these in person. I’ve got 100’s of thousands of rounds through my nearly 40-yr-old 10/22 and have bought and sold many others while always keeping the original (though the only thing still original is the core action at this point). I had trouble with their takedown version and went back to the tried-and-true fixed barrel design for myself.

I am looking at picking up their chassis for my own 10/22. It’s got a lot of the things I’ve been looking for. It would be even better to pick up a charger and SBR it.

Good solid stuff, Casey. I agree about the take-down. And I hadn’t considered the possibility of offset pressure on the dovetail being a weak point. Overall, an outstanding and proven design.
I still have one original NIB classic stored around here somewhere…

One of my good friends, whenever he has been buying a gun, usually buys 4 or 5. He has been doing it this way for years. Im not quite there, myself.
I did buy quite a few of the 10/22’s years ago after another friend told he had just bought 6, so he could give them to his grandchildren later in life.

    I think I paid $99/ea. they’re about $360/ea. now

In 1976 I bought several rugers stamped, “made in the 200th year of American Liberty”
One was a 10/22 gift for my wife. When I started to modify it she got very upset and I restored it to original PDQ!
