Please keep my son and family in everyone's prayers. My 7 year old son has to have surgery on his hip Sept.1. He has perthes disease and they have to cut his femur bone in half and realign his hip and put a plate in his leg. So I am asking everyone to please keep my family in your prayers. Thank you

Sorry to hear that. Prayers covered here. I've got young grand kids. Two have some issues, but not as serious. I know that Perthes is not really a disease in the normal sense ( It is rare) and is quite fixable with proper treatment which sounds like your son is getting. Sucks to be that young and and have to go thru with major surgery like that. Kids are very resilient. The thing is are you? The road ahead won't be easy. Hang in there.

Had a friend in California whose 10 year old daughter got Perthes. Problem with her was with the femur tip/head and associated blood vessel issues with Perthes. I recall she had major hip surgery and a lot of follow up treatments for some time. She's 20 something now and her Perthes is a distant memory by now.

My wife and i will be praying for you guys! Good thing it is being taken care of so that one day you guys wont need to worry about it anymore. Try to stay strong and positive. I hope he heals fast.

My family could actually use some prayers as well. Our 2 year old son is having small siezures. We are on it.
It has been a rough road for us as he was born 2 months early with hearing loss. I always tell myself things could always be worse and noone is perfect.

My youngest grandson who is now six (I think) was born with poor hearing in one ear and no ear canal at all in the other. I always knew something was up with him. Turns out he couldn't hear for s**t. The Docs didn't figure what was up until he was three!! Apparently they don't check for ear canals being present. Sheesh. He just had a cochlear implant done in the "good" ear for $17K. I'm helping to cover some of the cost. Major truck mods have to wait awhile. Only partly covered with insurance/grants. At least there are more options available now for your son. I do know that the Docs may wait until your son gets a little older before anything major. Guess they have to narrow down what is exactly causing the seizures and nip it in the bud when they can. Don't quote me on that. Not sure what they are going to do with my grandsons' other ear. Good news is that he can hear me yelling at him now. heh heh.
(What's cool is that Cochlear Americas in Centennial, CO is one of our calibration clients and one of the top makers of cutting edge implants. They have some cool stuff that helps out a lot of kids to be able to hear at younger ages now.)
