I did a quick search here and did not find winter tires for "ice" mentioned.

I live in the PNW and intending to run a separate winter set of wheels & tires. Where I live in the Columbia River Gorge, winter months snow is a given. The main concern is getting around when the roads turn to ice, and/or packed snow & ice. What do people in AK, or Canada use?

In the past 15 years I've always run Bridgestone Blizzaks with good results on passenger cars and smaller SUVs. I have a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro now and wonder if there is a different recommendation for the larger truck application? (I do use sand bags for weight in the bed)

    Thanks in advance.

Southcentral Alaskan, snow/ice conditions for over half the year.

Currently second winter running Toyo Observe G3 Ice w/ studs on my 2018, and have been extremely impressed.

This is my 3rd Tundra and previously had always just ran it in 4x4 with AT tires (2001 with BFG AT KO’s, 2010 with KO2’s, and 2018 with Cooper AT3 XLT’s).

Current 2018 in 2wd with the studded Toyos outperforms the Cooper AT3 XLT’s in 4x4 in all winter conditions except 1’+ deep / drifted snow.

Thanks. I used to run studs but my impression was the Blizzaks were actually better all around. Plus, I think they stopped selling studded tires due to road damage.

Thanks, I'll check those out. That's definitely a name I would need to look up the spelling for.

Also great winter tire. Am running studded Hakka 9 - SUV’s on my Jeep SRT.

Ran studded Hankook I-Pike’s on my 2014 Jeep SRT, and they did good as well. But would give the nod to the Nokians.

If going studless, can’t go wrong with Blizzaks. That’s what I have on my son’s Prius, and they do well.

Blizzaks are a GREAT tire if you are in more mixed conditions for shorter periods. I feel totally safe having my son driving on them in his Prius (we won’t talk about my general confidence in his 16 year old self tho, lol).

We are snow / ice for half the year, so studs are a great benefit up here. Especially for starting / stopping while towing.

Besides being more noisy / more road wear, with two identical tires, studs win in winter conditions every time.

Another good one is Michelin Ice X , I’ve used them for 7 years now .

I'm currently running the Hakka's (studded) on a 2020 SR5 and I can't imagine a better performing tire for the conditions where I live (central interior British Columbia). They weren't cheap mind you, but in hindsight, worth every penny and I'd buy them again in the future without hesitation. I asked around when I got this truck and several different places told me essentially the same thing - if you want the best, go with the Hakka's.
