    Hello,

    New member here.

I am currently driving a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie, 2wd, pentatstar v6, that is loaded with every option except sunroof. It has been a great truck and I was set to order another, but they have closed orders for 2024, and the 2025 Laramie will only be available with the new “hurricane” inline 6, and only in 4wd(which I don’t need). I don’t want to be a beta tester for this new engine and platform, so I have been looking hard at the Tundra, probably a 1794 or platinum 2wd.

Are there any 3rd generation 2wd owners that would be willing to share their thoughts? I am in early stages of research and have been reading this forum the past few days and have already gleaned lots of helpful information. Thanks!

I really enjoyed my 2013 Platinum 2wd, but ultimately decided that I wanted 4wd and the ability to sleep in the back comfortably when camping. The 5.5 ft bed wasn't comfortable for that, as much as I tried. I ended up getting rid of mine and bought a Sequoia that met my needs better.

    39k on my 2022 platinum 2wd
Composite bed is great for transporting saltwater. Family enjoy having AC and heated rear seats. Make sure dealers don’t tint front two windows with cheap tint. Get the power running boards. If you’re lucky you can add the 3,500 trd performance upgrade. Should be some other stuff I’m missing

my platinum doesn’t have locking gas door. I think the 1794 has it.

Biggest vehicle I have ever owned. Too large some times. Really like it other than that. Can’t imagine not having the power running boards.

I have a 2022 2wd TRD Sport premium. Good news is a lot of truck and particularly Tundra buyers think 4wd is mandatory even if they have no use case. That means you can usually deal harder on the 2wds. I got mine for $4500 off in Oct 22 when many were still over list. The bad is your resale will be lower.

I came from a 2015 Ecodiesel Laramie which I loved. After looking at a lot of new Rams when I bought I came to the conclusion I liked my old Ram better than the new Ram. The newer ones were uglier, much more expensive, removed some neat features I liked. The Laramie was now $65k with cheap plastics, trim and seats.

Afte 14k very happy with the purchase. The 3.4L smokes the EcoD or the V6. The mpg are decent if you don't drive like NASCAR.

That looks awesome, but I understand you have to run 91 octane unfortunately.

    Powered running boards noted! Thanks!

I’m running 93 octane here. All the time.

    Fatone,

I am retired and my use will be around town and long road trips with my wife and dog. Will put a gator trifold cover on the bed. Looking for comfort and reliability.

Yes, I have owned some beast 4wd vehicles back when I hunted a lot. I had a 1975 Bronco that would leave three deep tracks behind it as it was plowing with the front and rear diffs! Skinny non radial mud grips! I live in the Deep South and when we infrequently get snow or ice my wife’s Subaru Outback drives like it’s on dry pavement.

Lower OTD with lower resale is okay with me, should be close to a wash hopefully.

Thanks to everyone who has replied! Very good advice.

I have…For a smaller truck, the turning radius sucks. MPGs are not much better than my 5.7. The seats are shit. Only good thing is the 14” head unit.
