I have CARISTA available in Houston if anyone interested. I think I still have like 3 weeks of subscription. Free of course if you drive to my location.

I'm in Alberta where we've been issued at least three grid alerts in the past few days with lows in the -40 range.
Here's a similar graph. By the way the former left wing gov here did away with much of the coal power. Wind and solar are not only unsightly they are useless because you can't depend on them in times of emergency.

x2. When I looked yesterday it was suppose to get up into the 40's today, and not drop below freezing.

Needless to say after it started to rain we shut everything down and sent everyone home before the roads got too bad.

Based on the forecast I went in to the office today. HR came walking around the building by about 10:30 a.m. telling people it was a good idea to work the rest of the day from home.

I am glad I am not that only one that misread it.

I want to say I know power won't go out this year. I have the generator already hooked up and 20 gallons of gas on standby... plus the 38 gallon tank in my truck.

    Lake Conroe related.

who the hell is in charge of the release of water at the dam?!!!!

water came up north of 3 feet. that's about 6 inches over our bulkhead.

I could not get to my lift motor in time, so....well...I hope it still functions once I dry it out.

we are damn lucky we had the boat over at the service lot.

They are sleeping!!! I mean it’s only been the major topic of discussions on the local weather. God forbid they open up a door and look outside and suggest “hey think we should crack a gate or two open”!! They get paid the big bucks!!!! It’s a dang shame! LMAO!!!!:notsure:

They could have released water for days before this hit. Everyone had a few days notice. If they would have cracked a couple gates before this hit things might be alright. That job takes some thought and processes to try and not have bad things happen. Sitting around doing nothing seems to be the thing to do these days with the only worries is give me my check!

    Agreed.

but, when you look at water management throughout the year, they lower the water based on weather patterns/forecasts...except this time. hell, they lower it for hurricane season without any forecast of hurricanes.

    it's just puzzling.

I get it. shit happens. I'll adapt & overcome.

but we pay a bunch of "smart" folks to manage catastrophe. and this was far from a surprise abnormal rain event. it was just a bit of heavy rain. and it was forecasted for more than a week.

no worries. God Bless those folks in harm's way.

Not trying to defend the SJRA, because they are a total mess, but your other post sounded like you meant they should open it now. FWIW, they are releasing some water from the dam recognizing it is flooding some areas.

The SJR is at historic highs now and we have more flood warnings near me than I saw at Harvey.

I personally wouldn’t want the job of determining the release. It’s a delicate balance between maintaining pool levels, sometimes for a very long sustained period of no rain (like this summer), or potentially flooding communities downstream.

As a civil engineer, I’m glad I went a different career path and stayed out of hydrology and water.

    Sorry - I terribly unclear.

they should have released water the week previous. when the weather forecast pointed in that direction.

they have done that on numerous occasions.

I've only been at this location since March-23, and have seen the lake adjusted for smaller events.

it's puzzling that it was not adjusted this time.

I have since learned some of the intricate dynamics....like...once the watershed starts "shedding", there ain't a damn thing the SJRA can do - other than prevent further flooding. Typical Gov entity.

so, as a capitalist, I have adjusted my "oh shit" agenda, to more conform to this un-reliable form of water level projection. and when the lake hits 202.25, I pull the boat lift equip. water hits the expensive stuff @ 203.5

then, I'll need to hire a "Gandalf" to teach me how to use mooring whips, because the boats hits the top of the cover @ 203.

    life is still good.

Sometimes it is not clear on our end as we aren't the ones doing flood modelling. However, I wouldn't put it past SJRA to completely drop the ball. IMO, they are an inept and borderline corrupt agency and have numerous planning and operational issues. They are also known to have serious conflicts of interest which has lead to misallocation of funds needed for flood control projects.

Yeah I have a Techstream but haven't used in long time. Let me dust it off and turn it on, make sure it works. I am in Sugarland so you will have to pick it up :)

Anyone have access to Techstream or know of a shop/dealer that has it that would be willing to do a VIN sync for my radio? Called my dealer I bought the truck from and a few others and all told me “can’t be done, can’t help you”. Even showed them the step by step instructions and acted like I was some sort of spy for even knowing what Techstream was or how I got access to the information . I get not knowing how to do something in the gen3 tundras or even not wanting to do something but this is just getting a bit old with some basic gear swaps that are common
