I was trying to figure out how that happened, like why they would be cut. The only thing that lines up with those cut joists is the bump out for the fireplace.
Like maybe they were going to run that bump-out all the way down to the basement... then didn't, and put a door there instead.

 

Yes it does. It's especially bad after long periods without rain. Some side to side sway as well.

I don't see any anchor bolts.

 

You can solve some of that sway with more 45deg braces like the two on the ends, but again another reason I don't like those surface post mounts, you get no resistance to that sway at all at ground level.
You could add some 45deg braces going out to the cantilever too, but your starting to make it look like a clusterfuck at that point.
You could sandwich another like 10' joist to every other one and that might help too.

 

It would make sense if he had a belt driven auger up front to chew and throw the snow. That setup will only plow a couple inches at best unless it’s all fluff.

 

Needs V-PLOW, that would be better lol

If I were @FirstGenVol, I'd be planting Cryptomeria along that chain link fence. Trim it up about a foot above the fence level once established. The branches make excellent kindling too.

My kid just came over and asked, "I don't get it, what's the joke?"

Snow blowing on gravel takes a special kind of stupid skill until it freezes.

 

Unless i’m not seeing something, that deck would never pass inspection anywhere here in oregon or washington. Reason being is that the 2x cross beams rely on fasteners for the shear load.

Sonotube would have been aesthetically more pleasing for the concrete pillars.

Where’s the cross bracing?

 

I try not to plant non-native trees. I had to look this one up. They get 200' tall??? I don't need a 200' tall tree right next to my house.

A few Green Giant Arborvitae's would probably be better.

 

Cryptomeria doesn't fall over, it's a center stalk with insignificant branching that doesn't carry weight. It looks native. Related to the Sequoia. Very similar habits/etc. to Cedar.

I'm all about natives also. You should see what I've got around my house, cherry laurel, witchhzel, grancy graybeard, oaks, mulberries, magnolias, maple, hornbeam, etc. I do a lot of foraging for natives to plant on the wooded spots of our tiny yard ... hepatica, mayapple, foamflower, rattlesnake plantain, wild ginger. I respect fully wanting to keep it native, but privacy with something that appears native and natural is common sense to me, versus dropping in something snooty and/or appearing clearly out-of-place like Thuja AVs.

I think that's what my neighbor plants on his property line close to my driveway and now that thing is 25 feet tall and 10 feet in diameter. I just whack it with the hedgetrimmer to keep it from infringing on where I park my truck.

Ahhh, now it got a little colder. Snow had that crunch when I went to close the girls in their coop (which was a toasty 43deg ) They've been chillin in there only coming out for treats and visits.

 

I upgraded our chicken door. Our three remaining cluckers have been safe so far.

Ive seen them do it durring the summer, or anytime really. It makes sense if its cold though, switch it up keeping the feet warm.
But these two are livin good, hell they are still laying an egg each every day.
Ive got a 2700k LED in the coop 7am to 9pm, and LED shop light in their hoophouse/run. I guess light plays a factor in laying of eggs.
