Can you take some pictures of the rear camera installed on your truck?

It sticks right there, gives me a decent enough view, and the cable tucks neatly away behind the headliner and trim panels on the way to the dash cam.

Like I said I got this strictly for documentation purposes in case of an accident and it does the job well.

What is the rear camera connected to for power?

The rear camera is connected to the same wiring harness that connects the dash cam to the vehicle. It's tucked inside the cowling and the headliner. There is about ten feet of wire between the two so a lot of room to play. I tucked the wire away behind the trim panels and headliner from where it is to the front...

Oh ok. Thanks. Afraid to touch my headliner, feel like it’s so flimsy it will crack

Ok I should edit what I meant- The rubber trim around the headliner is flexible and that's how I tucked the wire in. The only place I actually touched the headliner was at the windshield, and it was no big deal- It needs to move like a quarter inch.

You do not have an auto-dimming mirror but the Dongar still worked? I just completed the install and it doesn't power my dash cam, did I buy the wrong one? I bought the 5-Pin type A from Dongar. Thought maybe their auto dimming mirror disclaimer was the reason it didn't work.

Yes. It works for me perfectly & powers my Garmin Mini 2 like a champ. I do not have the auto dimming mirror. 5-pin Type A is the correct one.

Not to go IT department on you, but you did turn your truck on, correct? It's setup for switched power so it won't power on unless the truck is running. You might pop the overhead cubby out again and make sure it's fully seated. Following that, you might reach out to them directly. I believe Dongar is a small operation, and they build each unit by hand. Maybe you got a bad unit?

I just got the Toyota OEM Dash Cam installed. Upgraded the memory card to 128 GB - I was unable to get the Dash Cam app to format the new 128GB Micro SD - so I used my laptop and was successful! Thanks for all the pointers and experiences here you all!

I just grab my microsd card out of the dash cam, and pop it into my pc, copy off the .mp4's I want to view and pop it back in, pretty simple, and much faster then trying to do it over the phone I've found.

I am disappointed in the OEM dashcam - after having been broken into this weekend, the dashcam woke up and I got 2 minutes of video starting at 2:57AM of the front of the truck, and the perpetrator didn't walk in front of the truck for a pic for me. I'm probably going to replace it with a 3rd party dashcam. I'm looking at a few - that have 24 hr parking videos so you get those that are staking out the vehicle - from all around it. The price isn't much different then the OEM camera and most are higher quality video.

You beat me to it,I was thinking exactly the same....
I got the factory installed cam,the quality is definitely not the greatest quality but it does its job for sure.
As for the beeping thing, when I key up it'll beep and that's that, but if I hit a good sized pot hole the cam will beep and go into a different mode, excuse me for the improper "term" but maybe vivid, panic or accident mode and records differently.
I dunno but in today's F'd up society of thinking and scaming anything that breathes I'm happy that I have this additional safety blanket.

So far, I've narrowed it down to the viofo 129 or 229 pro - 3 channel or the Vantru (though this one isn't so good from what I've seen of actual video clarity tests) - I'm looking for parking recording - the vantru 4n or 5n takes 6-12 seconds to wake up ... the viofo , with a 1-2 second wake up with recording prior if I recall. I'm also looking for one that uses capacitors for power vs batteries as I live in SWFL with the heat. (cap's are better for cold too) and thinking I might get a power bank to go with it. We'll see, still investigating. watching a ton of videos - and comparing people's testing. Safe drive solutions and vortex radar and blackboxmycar and the hook up are some of the reviewers I've looked at - with a bunch of others that seem more like they're sales videos... trying to sell their product vs comparing (normal youtube stuff) . 4k with the new Sony starvis 2 chip seems to get the best picture clarity - hdr use is mixed it seems. 1080 for the rear and interior IR cams seem fine. there are a few license plate read tests in various driving situations that are interesting to see the actual differences. and the parking tests are interesting to view too. I was looking at blackvue 970 and thinkware u1000 I think it is, but they didn't do so well in some of the clarity tests. The Donger dongle is a great way to get power it seems from above the mirror in the headliner. and the rear bracket for the window on my '23 crewmax (1794) below are a couple of the videos I've looked at that had some good info. - oh, and I also tried to look at recent videos - so the camera selection is fairly recent. all less then 1 year since posting.

I didn't order my 1794 with the dashcam, nor the safe...This particular truck was the closest to what I had on my options list that I could find. So, I took it with these 2 added options. But with the car breakins increasing everywhere... I'm rethinking this. And, the oem dashcam is only good for viewing during driving pretty much...so, if I'm going to have a dashcam... I'm looking for one that does parking recording and in cabin as well as behind us.

Wouldn't it be great, if Toyota could tap into all these cameras that are part of the 360 camera system and do that as part of the dashcam... They've got all the parts and pieces, just need to tie it into the dashcam to be able to record it. Now that would cost $$$$ I bet.

Update: I was thinking it was the 129/229, it's the voifo 139/229 Pro I'm interested in. And the 229 Pro is the same cost, with higher resolution rear camera without losing the front camera resolution like the 139 pro does.

I have few Viofos, 119, 129 and mini, and they all rock solid. My main interest was Texas heat and they're holding very well on the windshield and battery is not leaking. Is a great brand and had them for 4 or 5 years now

The viofo 229 Pro sounds like a great unit - improved on the viofo 129 pro at the same price. with a screen.

Here is my 119 mini ready to go on my new 2021 Tundra. I will combine it with a suction cup since I have tint on my windshield and in Texas heat really nothing will stick to the glass as their tape is crap. And is super glued to that bracket, not going anywhere :) This combo worked for me perfectly for all my viofo's in the Texas heat. This is my 4th Viofo

Thanks Sir. How does your kit works? I have a 2021. Don't you need something like this that plugs in between the mirror female connector and male power cable? which will give you an USB output? https://trailgridpro.com/products/dash-camera-power-adapter-14-22-tundra
I am not following where your kit plugs into the mirror? Is there a second output connector in the mirror so you can extend it to USB via your kit?
    Thanks in advance Sir

I just now realized, yours is a 3rd gen. Do you make one for 2.5 gen?

I just looked up the price of the OEM dashcam - $495... that's absurd for what you get - it should be half that. at the most.

Has anyone removed the OEM Dashcam? I'm wondering what's involved with removing the mount from the glass. The unplugging and physical removal looks easy enough based on a couple youtubes I've seen on how to install it. Just wondering about removing it.

Also realized that you're not the 3rd Gen :(

Unless someone with a 2021 and older can let me know if there is an OEM plug in the headliner, I don't think I can help much...
