What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

That grill has a nice spot for a light bar also. What's the width? About 20 inches or so?

 

Not sure about measurement but yes, a light bar would fit pretty nicely there. The only thing is I would have to drill into my freshly painted bumper

Alright. Decided not to settle on the black rhino chambers and found out the kmc carnage wheels are in stock out of CA. Pretty set on those bad boys. 16" is the way I want to go, but...

Toyos Open Country RTs Trails in a 285/75/16 are about 5-6 lbs heavier, per each, than the 285/70/17. Seems like most of the 285/75/16 are E rated and about 61 lbs... unless I go with Micky Thompson Baja EXP or Coopers Evo MT, as both are around 56 lbs. The wheels themselves are 23 lbs. 17" aren't much heavier.

Am I over thinking this extra weight? I want to get what I like, but not if it's going to kill the joints even faster.

 

Couple questions.

Do you do any towing? If not, you could get a tire that's load range C to save on weight. I've been running 285/70/17 KO2's load range C since 2019. Love the size. They weigh 51lbs.

2nd question. Do you live in a place that gets snow? It doesn't look like either tire you mentioned is 3 peak mountain snowflake rated. Not a huge deal but worth considering.

I recently decided I'm going with Pizza Cutters next. 255/80/17. They are taller but narrower. The Falkens in that size weigh 58lbs.

As of now, little to no towing, but my wife has been expressing her desire for a camper (pop up or slightly bigger). So it's gonna happen lol.

I live in Southern ID, snow is pretty intermittent. Right now we have some, but we don't get a ton. I grew up in WY and drove all over that state, so I'm fairly accustomed to snowy/windy/icy conditions. Kinda seemed like the Toyo RT was the best of both worlds.

I have considered the pizza cutters, but my concern with the skinny tire is that I'm gonna feel every single hole in the ground.

 

TIL, southern Idaho doesn't get much snow...

 

I should specify, southwestern, ID. Further east like Idaho Falls, etc, get a decent amount.

 

My slice of heaven for the night. Peppersauce campground. There was snow all over the ground when we got there but was mostly gone by the end of the day except the shade. It probably got down to 29 this morning; coffee water poured fine first thing, but the nozzle froze up shortly after Tetris town! The spread Even a carrot for the snowman! Good poppa! This gives me ideas about what I need to do with the Jura x70 grind and brew I've got sitting at work. We're about to close down the site. I think I need to mount it on a slide in the truck, and I can be the campsite barista. Thing is huge.

also thanks, my one buddy has 2-3 kids of age to be camping but never brings them with us. I’m trying to slowly change that!
I think this was my first overnighter with both of them, it wasn’t terrible, no sharts(never trust a fart!!!) and only one pee accident, thankfully during the day and not in bed!!!

 

Yeah like deconstructed s’more in a Dutch, my buddy made this DANK no mix blueberry cobbler with ice cream(freezer for the win!!!) it was sooooo good. And he turned me onto those cool parchment paper liners for the DO.

 

Is this a bad sign? Looks like I’m two quarts shy. I just added one after what you see here and it went 1/2 way up between the notches.


Maybe it’s leaking out the valve cover? Seems a little hard to believe though.

 

I mean, it still had the minimum recommended amount, so it's good you caught it. Reminds me, I need to check mine and Seafoam myself.

I'm more interested in that leak. Are you squirting at the PCV valve? When was the last time you changed that f'er?

 

I changed the oil in early November so it’s only been about 3 month and maybe a 2-3 thousand miles driven. I’ll have to keep a watchful eye until the good weather comes to change the valve cover seal. I’m on my 3rd PCV valve. Last time it was changed was a couple years back.

 

Do you know what's causing the leak on that side of the driver's side VC?

Are you leaking elsewhere on the VCs?

 

No just there. I may try warming the engine in the day to see if there’s a regular drip. If there is, it’s probably smoking when it gets to the block or manifold which is why I don’t see a puddle underneath.

 

Any other sweet rigs out there?
Possibly any others we might recognize?

 

Mine used to leak from valve covers and would be a about a quart low by the next oil change.

Save yourself some money & hassle, just go straight to the slightly bigger. You're going to end up there anyway.

 

This is true. I had a pup for years. It was a rebuild project. Loved it. Ended up trading for a single axle 1 slide bunkhouse. Loved it better.

I usually keep them shot up with WD... this was a new truck to me at the time.

 

I was. There was tons of hand sanitizer at work during that time. I was also a smoker. The assistant fire chief for the plant asked me to use my lighter to unfreeze the lock to the gas pump... He told me I could smoke in the plant if I did it. So I remembered being a teenager and my lady friend at the times father getting us drunk on new years. Her father taught me a valuable lesson. He said "you need more ice in your cup. Alcohol melts ice."
So knowing hand sanitizer was like 80% alcohol and that we had an abundance of it, and gasoline plus open flame equal boom-boom, I got the lock off with the hand sanitizer and earned the privilege to smoke inside the plant during my 3 day residence there during the big freeze.

 

Mine too. Tightened up all the loose bolts, pressure washed it to see if it keeps leaking (but dipstick will tell too), and planning to swap the gaskets in a while. Glad it's not a 1st gen taco where you can't reach all the bolts to snug em up without pulling the intake! Have the same problem on one of those too. So two jobs pending.
