any insight, inside news on the Ramcharger – timelines ?

So IMO you can’t ask a person if they loved their Jeep. Jeeps are like boats. Everybody, everybody loves them, they represent freedom, a lifestyle. I was a Jeep Fan boy years ago.
Back before warranties became a thing, there used to be 1 year warranties. All cars and Jeeps were simple, you either fixed them yourself or the corner repair guy could. So with my Jeeps it came down to ok - that’s enough money on repairs and moved on. That was the experience years ago.
Now with the longer warranties, its more about how much your time is worth as you need to make time to drop it off, do you have a loaner vehicle etc… I know two people with newer Jeeps they are both friends of my kids. They love their Jeeps. I always ask when I see them, hows the Jeep running ? ....because I still love Jeeps. And I usually hear about trips needed to the dealer for something. More than one time have seen my son under his female friends Jeep Wrangler because something was rattling or leaking. (on my driveway)

You kinda get this way (whiny) when you have driven a vehicle for 6 years and outside of oil changes all I carry around is a straightened outboard motor cotter pin for clearing the moonroof drains of pine needles. What a terrible design Toyota . I am also kinda worried about the OEM battery. I keep it on a solar charger when not driving it. Yeah I should replace it but one of the boats always needs a battery. That’s where the $$ go.

No real insight yet as it went back and forth to the drawing board. Just hope it’s executed much better than the lighting was, that was a rough go while I was with ford. Plus it’s real world range is that of an eclectic scooter let alone when you tow with it! Fast though for the 19 seconds of charge you get lol

Pays $51k for a Stellantis expecting and not bothered by terrible manufacturing? Yep a different breed for sure.
Others depend on their high priced vehicle for work.

I never did like Ford's programing of the 10 speed even in their performance cars GM has the better programming of the 10 speed and why I chose the Camaro over the Mustang. It knows what I want always if I want to play or just do a nice relaxing drive on the highway it always knows what I want it to. With the 10 speed in the trucks I like the GM programming in that better too especially in the new GM 2500 6.6 Gas with the 10 speed it feels great test drove one last week servicing the Camaro.

Just the messenger. I have no opinion of JD Power. Its survey results. Interesting.
Whenever I search Boat values I go to NADA. I see JD Power owns that web site too.

    https://www.jdpower.com/business/press-releases/2023-us-initial-quality-study-iqs

What is important is how long will that initial quality last.
Hopefully to the end of your lease or finance term which is how most people buy vehicles.
I can't write them off any more so its cash now for daily drivers too.
I can however see how Jeep people might be a little biased on their ratings because they love their vehicles so much.

Everybody else has something that makes me feel poor. Always gonna happen. We have nice vehicles and travel well but we live in a 115 year old home without a usable Garage or a Master Suite and a tiny lawn. Definitely get a twinge of jealously when we go to gatherings in nice modern homes. Oh well. We'll live, we'll retire with no mortgage.

Maybe it's because they had to wait 2 years to get a Sienna.

Jeep Gladiator being the top mid size with Ford Ranger is biggest farce I can imagine. Both are plagued by transmission and electrical gremlins, what a joke. One of my employees had his Ranger transmission changed 4 times, with no resolution before selling the truck.

Crap weather here yesterday. Buddy of mine was hit way harder than me. He lives out in a kind of a boondocks-ish area of the Philly suburbs and always wants me to buy close to him but it's a disaster area in weather like this. Complete cluster while suburbs 20 minutes away with good drainage and houses not surrounded on all sides by vegetation do fine. Floods and fallen trees all around his place. He didn't hesitate to go through water over the top of his bumper in his Tahoe to get home and is now out cutting up trees. Made me wonder how high would trigger crisis mode in the Powerboost. I was once in halfway up my grill in my 04 Dakota and bottom of my grill a couple times with my Crewmax both bone stock. But I suspect I'd see some electrical Gremlins if I did much more than top of the tire or higher for more than a minute or two on the Powerboost.

Years ago my wife turned a corner leaving early for work in in a downpour and plunged into a flood she did not see until too late. Had to call me to push her disabled car out. I think I was in the Dakota at the time. I would get real nervous getting that call this time.

Not sure of the Powerboost battery, hybrid system but Ford says the Lightning can go through 3 feet of water.

I found this: As it seems, the battery-pack and Pro Power Onboard generator are mounted high enough that they don't compromise ground clearance. They're also airtight so they don't allow water in—always a plus.

Stellantis does great until that 1st failure. Stellantis = lease don't buy.

Hopefully Toyota isn't heading in that direction.

Interesting. Tires are I think a hair over 34 inches tall so I guess a bit over the tops of the tires would put me a 36, same as the Lightning. Powerboost manual says center of the hub, so I guess center of the wheel or roughly a foot and a half is the official limit. That's one where I assume they're liability obsessed so my comfort level will probably remain tops of the tires.

Reality is when the SHTF and you're trying to get home you either punk out and find another route or eyeball it and plunge ahead. At most maybe judging by what the side of the road looks like. Nobody's gonna open the door get out and do depth checks.

just curious and this speaks to a bigger problem.
They sold 63000 Rangers in 2023. Does Ford make this transmission or is it from a supplier ?
Looks like there was some bad ones and things did not get flagged after the second repair ?
or was 'Electronics Programming" causing the transmission to mess up and they could not diagnose it properly. Why?
Not making excuses for Service Depts. but with the way things were last couple years with parts, the Service Depts which are separate businesses are probably just happy to do the work get paid - next customer please. But 4 times ?

Had a former coworker buy a new Ranger in 2020, needed a new transmission last year at 71k miles. He was a Ford guy until this truck, had little issues ever since new, with the transmission being a little more serious.

It was a 2019, I don't know the OEM for the transmission or components. Dealer did probably a dozen TCM resets in combination with rebuilds/replacements. Could boil down to a workmanship issues, but I got tired of pursuing the problem and made the employee sell the truck because I need my salesman on the road, not without vehicles for weeks at time. I'd never ever recommend a Ranger again, he's been driving a 2022 Tacoma with zero issues, 55,000 miles since June.

its surprising really. The Ranger has been used all over the world before they brought it back here. Its not like it was a new design or anything.

My Dakota actually drifted sideways half way through flood waters and thankfully when I gently applied more throttle the tires dug in and she moved forward. Otherwise a photo of it might have ended up in one of those embarrassing "Don't get arrogant just because you're in a big 4x4 truck" news segments. Even Crew CAb 4x4 she was a tad under 5k pounds.

    Tundra felt much better.

Wait a minute, the guy who shits on 5.7’s longevity more than anyone on the forum blew up his tuned EcoBoost with what, 115k miles? :eek2:

Honestly though, it sounds like your situation is unique: you can uber around while it takes 2 months to get your truck back. I don’t want to speak for anyone else on here, but I could never do that. I can’t load all my work gear into an Uber. I’m self-employed, and my client base grows via word of mouth. I need this thing to get me to my job site every single time. If it were in the shop, I’d start growing a backlog of overdue jobs that could quickly spiral out of control.

Regarding the million mile thing, no one here plans to actually take their truck to 1M miles. It’s just nice knowing the truck is going to work every time we need it to for however long we choose to own it. The higher resale due to more life left than any other truck at X mileage is a bonus.

This situation reminds me of a buddy of mine. His 2013 EB gave him 113k perfect (his word) miles. He maintained it meticulously. Now it needs $8k worth of work including two new turbos (there are other issues I don’t remember as well). He was skeptical and got a 2nd opinion at an independent shop. They confirmed it and said the work needs to be done at a Ford dealer. He doesn’t trust the truck any more and is thinking about going with a Land Cruiser and getting a small utility trailer to replace the truck bed.

Here's hoping the same thing doesn't happen to my FIL's 2013 EB, especially while he's towing his trailer in the mountains. I think his mileage is lower, though.

small motors making big power are destined to fail or wear out prematurely, there is no way around it.

A bit OT kind of but My wife got a recall for her 2015 Acura TLX purchased new. Problem was found on some years with connecting rod bearings that could frag the engine. Acura will have a plan of action and parts ready early spring and be prepared to inspect, and repair or replace the motor on her 2015 with 65k as necessary.

She also has a free 10 year 150k warranty on her transmission due to issues that applied to her build date uncovered a few years ago. Only real problems have ever actually been a bad strut and a loose overhead sunglass compartment door.

In all my vehicle buying years I've never seen any company, even Toyota, that gets itself out in front of all this stuff the way Honda has with her car. Out of the blue we'll get a letter about something we had no idea was a common issue. "We found some owners had a problem with such and such a part so even though yours seems fine and we haven't heard from you and your warranty is nearly up and you had no idea this was going on, what the hell, f&$k it, you're now covered for 10 years/150k."

If I ever lose interest in half tons I really don't see any way out of buying a Honda or an Acura. Unparalleled customer care culture among mass market manufacturers. I started in a Dodge Dakota back in the day where people were going on Dateline NBC to Call the company out for trying to bribe them to stay quiet about their ball joints snapping at 30k or less while they were driving around. What Honda/Acura does for her is amazing to see. Toyota and Honda are not perfect and seemingly having more issues than they used to but they confront things domestics honestly would sweep under the rug. Ford, Chevy and Dodge aren't going to do a broad multi model year engine recall or warranty extension because some motors grenade.

Toyota is almost at Honda's level but not quite.

Subaru is up there with Toyota and Honda imo as well. It has been a nice surprise since our Legacy we got new in 20 is our first Subaru ever and I can definitely see us giving them repeat business. Sorry for going OT

FWIW, Ford seems to be more transparent about its issues than GM. At least the TSB/recall documents are more detailed as it pertains to root cause. I'm not sure if Toyota provides that level of granularity.

Another manufacturer that seems to try to resolve these issues quickly is BMW. You can easily see the part supersessions by date on their parts lookup.
